Javier Camejo, a resident of Arrecife, was driving around 7:15 p.m. on Monday on the LZ-501 road when, in an "unexpected" moment, he felt a "strong blow" to the side and lost control of the vehicle. "A dog made me overturn. I did three somersaults and got out of the car as I could," Camejo tells La Voz, who will file a complaint against the owner of the animal. The dog died and ended up lying on the side of the road.
Camejo, 37, testified before the Civil Guard about this accident and explained that a friend had left him the car in the morning to carry out several personal errands. When the accident happened, already in the afternoon, he thought that the front right tire had burst, but after looking around he noticed that there was a dog, a black Labrador, dead on the right side of the road.
"The dog came out so close to the right wheel that it lifted and the car overturned," he indicates. The affected person did not see the animal until after the accident and believes that it entered the road just when he passed with the car. He doesn't even remember if he made any maneuver when he felt the blow to the right side of the car.
The dog had a collar and the owner was called, who "came to the scene of the accident," explains the affected person, who was told by a neighbor that the animal was usually "loose." Camejo assures that at first the owner of the animal was worried and "took responsibility," but now "it seems that he is washing his hands a bit." Therefore, he has decided to file a complaint.
As a result of the accident, the vehicle was wrecked, and its driver suffered several injuries and had to be transferred by ambulance to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital. "I don't have anything broken, but I'm a triathlete and I won't be able to do anything for a while," he says. According to the medical report, he suffered multiple contusions, whiplash, cuts on his hand and has to wear a neck brace.
In the hospital, they performed an alcohol test, which showed a rate of 0.0. The injured person stated before the Civil Guard that he was driving at a speed of about 60 kilometers per hour, had his low beam lights on because it was starting to get dark and also his seat belt.
