A body found seven miles from Puerto Calero could be that of the missing person in Matagorda

A recreational boat spotted a body seven miles from Puerto Calero at approximately 10:15 a.m. this Friday, which could be that of the person who disappeared in Matagorda this past Monday. The Salvamar patrol boat has managed to recover the body from the water and is currently heading towards Puerto Naos.

Everything points to it being the body of Lorenzo Olivero Avero, 52 years old and a resident of Arrecife, who disappeared on Monday afternoon while he was on Matagorda beach with his family. This man went for a swim with "a mask and a snorkel" to practice snorkeling. When they saw that he was not returning, his relatives notified the emergency services.

From that moment, the device began to search for this man. In the first four days of searching, there were no positive results. After searching the entire Matagorda area, the Salvamar patrol boat headed south to comb this part of the island. In addition, the emergency teams of Fuerteventura were also notified.

The GEAS divers of the Civil Guard also arrived in Lanzarote, who carried out several unsuccessful dives. The Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium even opened a new search route, appealing to citizen collaboration. To this end, it disseminated the photograph of the missing person, who suffered from diabetes.

The relatives of Lorenzo Olivero Avero have been at the foot of the beach throughout the week to follow these search efforts. In fact, they slept two nights in a tent installed by the Red Cross on the Matagorda promenade.
