20 illegal immigrants detained after arriving on board two boats in Teguise and Haría

A total of 13 immigrants, all adult males of Moroccan origin, were arrested after arriving last Saturday around seven in the morning at La Playa de Los Charcos, in Teguise, aboard a small dark artisanal boat of 4 meters in length, which they left adrift near the shore when landing.

The Civil Guard and the Local Police of Teguise began a search to locate the remaining occupants of the boat. Hours later, another 6 immigrants were found, who joined the 7 found.

On Sunday morning, a security guard at the Jameos del Agua Tourist Center, in Haría, reported the presence of a boat stranded among several rocks.

As a result of searches undertaken by the Civil Guard in the surroundings of the place, which is difficult to access, 5 occupants of that boat were located, all males from Morocco and among whom there is a 16-year-old. Shortly after, another 2 immigrants were located wandering around Mala, which raised the number of immigrants from this second boat to 7.

Transferred to the Foreigners Internment Center

The empty boat, blue in color, 6 meters long, 1.5 wide and with two engines, remained in the sea adrift, after being dragged by the currents, and a Maritime Rescue boat recovered it and towed it to land.

All the immigrants, once identified, were transferred to the Foreigners Internment Center at the Guacimeta airport.

With these latest actions, the number of immigrants located in just 24 hours from the five boats that arrived in the province of Las Palmas has risen to 64.
