When August arrives, Tinajo dresses up to celebrate its festivities in honor of its patron saint San Roque, receive family and friends to share the special meal and enjoy the events programmed by the City Council. Last Saturday, the great family of the Timbayba Musical Cultural Association celebrated its XXII festival, choosing the comfortable facilities of the social hall as the stage with full capacity, with an audience eager to party and on this occasion supporting Traditional Culture with its music and dances.
At 9:00 p.m. the first chords of the Popular Music Group 'Tendal' began to sound. A group that comes from the Palmeran municipality of San Andrés y Sauces, the main agricultural and commercial region of the north of the island, not only for the fertility of its lands, but for the abundance of water from the springs of Marcos and Cordero. A place where they care about maintaining their musical legacy as championed by the group 'Tendal', founded in 1999 by a group of friends who had been meeting at Christmas to bring carols to such special holidays. They were called 'Rondalla Los Divinos', but they wanted more, they wanted to make music not just one month a year, but 365 days a year, they wanted to delight an audience thirsty for entertainment. And they have done so in these almost 25 years of existence, directed by Israel Martín, their boleros, sones, isas and habaneras have crossed the borders of the Canary Islands.
They began their performance with one of the great songs of Gloria Estefan, 'Abriendo puertas' continuing with different musical genres such as bolero, bachata, ballad and ranchera with voices that came down from the stage infecting the large audience that did not stop applauding and humming some other chorus. 'Tendal' ended its performance thanking the expressions of affection received with the illusion of returning very soon to Tinajo.
The second part of the festival was dedicated to the hosts and organizers, the women and men of the Timbayba Musical Cultural Association who took the stage surrounded by applause from the public. Directed by Professor Clotildo Martín, they began their performance with a song dedicated to the Patron Saint San Roque, continuing with a repertoire of more traditional dance songs such as seguidillas, Polca, Malagueña and Isa. Timbayba presented the song 'Terruño Humilde', dedicated to the town of Tinajo, a composition by the neighbor of, Gustavo Abreut with music by Professor Clotildo Martín, performed by the soloists, Tomi Romero and Carmelo Bernal.
About Timbayba
Timbayba was born in the month of July of the year 1986 within the 'Sociedad 7 de Julio', and it did so as a folklore school, becoming today the only group representing the municipality participating in different festivals and pilgrimages taking the name of Tinajo and Lanzarote beyond our borders, such as Madeira, New Orleans, Malaga, Asturias, Galicia etc.
The Timbayba family always takes maximum care of their staging with their impeccable costumes and each step of their choreography is timed. In addition, something to take into account is the scenography with a master, Tejure, always capturing the most representative of the Canary Islands to which is also joined another very important part when launching a festival of these characteristics, light and sound with a great professional, Ivanhoe Rodríguez.
Timbayba put the final touch to its Festival in this XXII edition very excited and grateful for the response of the public that never fails them every time they convene them, surrounding them with their affection and applause.
