Tías hosts the XXV Popular Music Encounter of the El Pavón group

A performance framed within the festivities of San Antonio de Padua

El Pavón

The Ulpiano Rodríguez Pérez Wrestling Arena hosted the XXV Popular Music Encounter of El Pavón this Saturday night, within the program of the San Antonio de Padua festival in the municipality. A very special event that they shared with their followers, a loyal audience that year after year makes an appearance and supports them with their applause.

For this occasion, the group had the professionalism of one of the greats of music in the Canary Islands, Víctor Batista, in charge of directing the artistic part of the meeting, a task that was not easy. The members of the group transformed the wrestling space by covering it with a tatami into a large stage where soloists and dancers could stroll comfortably, carrying out very elegant and highly visible choreographies with the figures and the striking colors of their dresses.

The schedule to follow in this XXV Encounter was marked by the dynamism of each of the participants from the beginning to the end, where the numerous public enjoyed a magnificent concert with the hosts and all their guests. One of them was the young Tenerife tenor Besay Pérez, whose powerful stream of voice echoed in the roof of the arena. A way of modulating that only he can afford when interpreting any genre in use.

David León also participated, another of the great musicians we have in the Canary Islands, a noble, generous man who makes any instrument that ends up in his hands sound. León played the "Tres Cubano and the Guitar", accompanying some soloists and also formed a duo with another of the greats of our island, José Vicente Pérez, trained at the Municipal School of Folklore of Tías where he teaches today.

The dance couples set the rhythm and color to the Encounter. When Besay Pérez performed the melody Nostalgia to the rhythm of tango, he was accompanied by the couple formed by Gabriel and Micaela, students of the Lanzarote Baila School directed by Miguel Medina, who left the audience speechless with their choreography. Martín and Karina carried out spectacular choreographies marking the rhythms of the Chacarera and Cueca with impressive footwork and swaying that only professionals like them can carry out. Also, the Canarian dances were present with four couples representing the Güerma Folklore Group from the municipality of Tías.

During the development of the meeting, very emotional moments were experienced, especially when the image appeared on the screen and the voice of Tomás Armas Sicilia, who died in 2020, a reference for Canarian culture and traditions, a member of the El Pavón Cultural Group, was heard. A space in which silence took over the capacity, ending with a warm and prolonged applause.

The XXV Encounter was marked by many other special moments such as the screening of the video clip of the song "Mi cuna es Tías", with music by Víctor Batista and lyrics by Pedro Rodríguez. A song dedicated to the municipality of Tías where the author in his lyrics draws a faithful reflection of the values, traditions and beauty of its towns and its people. Thus came the end of a night where the El Pavón Musical Group far exceeded the objectives set and to the rhythm of the chords of "Somos Costeros", to which the voices of the public also joined, the spotlights of the wrestling arena went out.
