The XIV Lanzarote Film Festival will explore the concept of "island" from November 21 to December 1

The festival will present the best of international cinema and reflect on insularity through screenings, debates and activities throughout the island

Presentation of the XIV Lanzarote Film Festival

The headquarters of the CIC El Almacén in Arrecife, in whose Buñuel hall the screenings of the Official, Cruce de Caminos and Trasfoco sections and other complementary proposals will take place, was also the setting for the presentation of the XIV Lanzarote Film Festival. The Tenique Cultural project will be held between November 21 and December 1 with the idea of "island" as a discursive and reflective axis.

The Culture Councilor of the Cabildo, Jesús Machín, invited the entire population to participate in an activity that he described as "the icing on the cake of Lanzarote's cultural offer." "I would also like to highlight that the seven municipalities are once again included in the same initiative, a complex objective that we owe to the good work of Tenique Cultural."

The CEO of SPEL Turismo Lanzarote, Héctor Fernández, also had words of praise for a cultural project that is celebrating its fourteenth edition with very positive results both in public appreciation and in external impact and economic return. As he pointed out, "the qualification of a non-conventional destination such as Lanzarote requires a firm commitment to supporting benchmark events such as this, and to highlighting and promoting the cultural values, sustainability and revaluation of the island's local values, objectives that are on SPEL's roadmap and are present in the Lanzarote Film Festival."

The Director of Art and Cultural Production of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of Lanzarote, María José Alcántara, recalled the support for years to this event "so that a rigorous and consolidated project, which reaches the entire island territory and audiences of all ages, continues its progress."

In his speech, the president of Tenique Cultural, Javier Fuentes Feo, expressed his gratitude to the Island Corporation and extended it to the Ministry of Universities, Science and Innovation and Culture, headed by Migdalia Machín from Lanzarote. In the same way, he referred to the seven town councils of the island "that have allowed us to meet the challenge of bringing the best cinema to every corner of the territory, as we already did with the screenings of Destiladera and the Summer Traveling Cinema."

"All the support we receive at home, together with the recognition of the Ministry of Culture and the accompaniment of the national and international press, has placed us in the league of the great festivals, which means both pride and responsibility regarding the quality and impact of this activity," he said.

A "memorable" inauguration

Still shrouded in mystery, the opening gala of the event, next Thursday the 21st, has opened registration on the website of the Lanzarote Film Festival, for attendance at a "memorable" evening, which again seeks to provoke unexpected emotions and moments of aesthetic pleasure in the public. The page also gives the possibility to take advantage of the last places of some pateadas and to formalize the registration to participate in the professional sound and photography courses.

Among the preliminaries of the project, prior to the official start, Fuente Feo highlighted the last conference of this year's cycle, by the professor of Philosophy Francisco Jarauta, who this Monday 18 at 7.30 pm gives at the UNED the presentation "The imaginary of the islands". In addition, on Tuesday 19 at 5 pm the exhibition "8 portraits 8 mutant stories of an island" will be opened to the public in the Plaza de El Almacén, in which Melchor López, Macarena Nieves Cáceres, Lana Corujo, Juli Mesa, Félix Hormiga, Pepe Betancort, Daniela Martín Hidalgo and Nieves Rodríguez have fueled their literary inspiration with different silhouettes of Lanzarote corresponding to ancient cartographies.

Other proposals planned in the program of the Lanzarote Film Festival of this edition include the conference of the honorary award on Friday 22 at the Pancho Lasso School, with free admission, or the debate table "Drinking the sea and other coastal dystopias", on Saturday 23 at 5.30 pm in El Almacén.

Exhibition and competition films

During the ten days of activities, films will be offered in the municipalities, with two sessions specially designed for school audiences, children's workshops and a playroom for family reconciliation on Fridays and Saturdays with screenings in Arrecife.

The titles of the Trasfoco section have been scheduled between the 22nd and 25th; the works in competition in the Official section can be enjoyed between the 26th and 29th and the Cruce de Caminos section is scheduled for that last day. A day later, also in the Buñuel hall, the public deliberation of the Jury, the verdict and the closing ceremony will take place.
