The Santo Domingo Convent hosted the 'Cantador Sinfónico' concert last Friday night as part of the Teguise Timple House-Museum program. A recognition of the figure of the singer in the world that is an original project by Manuel Estupiñán, Ciro Corujo and Pedro Manuel Afonso.
The audience enjoyed a luxury concert where the three tenors were accompanied by a symphony orchestra made up of 20 professional musicians directed by Professor Luis Montesdeoca. The three friends who have accompanied each other on their paths and who now come together in a shared format choosing a musical selection of renowned Canarian composers and other places on the planet such as Néstor Álamo, Braulio García, Antonio Carrillo, Daniel Toro or Edmundo Rivero among others.
Songs such as La Perla, La noche en Arguineguín, Zamba para Olvidar, La diferencia or Patria Querida to which are also added the most traditional and representative of Canarian song such as folías, isas or sorondongo. Manuel Estupiñán, Ciro Corujo and Pedro Manuel Afonso were surrounded by a great orchestra that does not lose an iota of Canarianness. The Santo Domingo convent is a space highly valued by musicians and singers for its acoustic quality and welcoming patio of seats.
Ciro Corujo is a singer who comes from a saga of artists linked to the word and popular tradition, but also to innovation in various areas of culture, especially in Lanzarote. For his part, Manuel Estupiñán has developed his activity linked to the popular sphere but also to academic training. He is a musical producer and active artist in the creation linked to music and the written word, he understands artistic expression as a universal act. And Pedro Manuel Afonso is a singer with a long career who has managed to bring a personal stamp to all the roles he has played. He has academic training in singing and connected to the pulse of root interpretation, a fact that accompanies him in everything he undertakes.
'Cantador Sinfónico' with Manuel Estupiñán, Ciro Corujo and Pedro Manuel Afonso conquered the public who did not stop applauding each of the songs they were performing. Three powerful voices that resonated clearly under the vault of the old convent to which the public also joined their voices in the choruses, standing out in the potpourri dedicated to Mexico.
The Councilor for Culture of the Teguise City Council, Francisco Javier Díaz, at the end of the concert shared with the three tenors and musicians congratulating them on the magnificent concert, setting the bar very high for its quality and dedication.
