The San Bartolomé City Council officially welcomed the 2024 patron saint festivities with an emotional ceremony held at the Municipal Theater and starring the neighbor and town crier of this year, Margarita Machín Rocío 'Marita'.
The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, introduced the town crier, highlighting her origins, her contribution to the preservation of the municipal documentary heritage and her commitment to the culture, photography, intrahistory and people of San Bartolomé.
"Marita has been ensuring for 25 years that each of the municipal documents is safe so that the history of San Bartolomé is not lost, always characterized by her responsibility and dedication from the first day she arrived at the Historical Archive facilities," the mayor stressed.
Finally, the mayor thanked Margarita Machín Rocío for "accepting with pleasure the invitation and the honor of inaugurating these festivities with her proclamation" and invited the population of the municipality and outside of it to attend the more than two weeks of events and activities planned during the patron saint festivities.
After a proclamation in which Marita alluded to her childhood in San Bartolomé, her humble beginnings, memories that are always linked to the traditions and culture of the municipality or the work carried out in the Historical Archive over the years, the mayor and the Councilor for Festivities, Estefanía Luzardo, accompanied by her family, presented the town crier with a recognition as part of this tribute and the commitment of the local government to the preservation of the culture and history of San Bartolomé.
To culminate the night, the public was able to enjoy musical performances by renowned artists such as Alexis Lemes, Adrián Niz, Serguey Saprichev, Orlando Niz or Almudena Hernández, in addition to the inauguration of the historical photography exhibition '20 years of Historical Photography Contest', which can be visited until August 24 on Dr. Cerdeña Bethencourt Street.
