The residents of the town of Mácher officially began the festivities in honor of their patron saint, San Pedro, on Thursday night with the reading of the proclamation, in which this year the festival committee surprised the attendees. With the chosen format of a gathering, it was decided to break with the schemes that had been carried out in previous editions.
For this edition, it was decided to have the Medina Ramos sisters, Loly, Toña and Yeya as announcers and with the special collaboration of the presenter Francisco José Navarro who, with the mastery that characterizes him, acted as moderator and, with great skill, extracted from each of the sisters experiences and anecdotes, who with much humor and wit answered each of the questions that Navarro asked them.
Thus, the Medina Ramos sisters related what the San Pedro festivities were like for them in their childhood and youth and the memories of their grandmothers, to whom they were very close, as well as the important role that the teachers played in their lives, also telling some of the pranks typical of their age.
They also recalled what their First Communion was like, highlighting above all the dates on which they were held, unusual today. Loly did it on December 25, Christmas Day, Toña on September 1 and only the little one, Yeya, did it on Corpus Christi Day.
Together with the moderator, the Medina Ramos sisters revealed another of the best kept episodes of the young people, when they began their first visits to the Mácher casino for the San Pedro festivities, wearing a new suit and shoes and then dancing to the songs of the time, which sounded on the battery-powered record player. Another family event they recalled was when their father bought a car and they made their first trip to Mancha Blanca to visit Nuestra Señora de los Dolores. Summers also marked the lives of the heralds, when they moved to nearby beaches to enjoy a swim and savor a slice of fresh watermelon and the odd roasted pineapple.
Loly, Toña and Yeya told these and many more experiences before the watchful eyes of family, friends and neighbors, who moved to the Guardilama Socio-Cultural Center of Mácher. At the end of the proclamation, the mayor of the Tías Town Hall, José Juan Cruz, and the Councilor for Festivities, Sergio García, presented them with a ceramic as a souvenir, while the festival committee gave them a bouquet of flowers.
Next, the trio formed by Rayco Hernández on the timple, Adrián Pérez on the guitar, and Fabiola Fernández as soloist, offered a varied repertoire of songs from different musical genres. In addition, as is customary in the town of Mácher, the attending public was able to taste a wide variety of homemade pastries and liqueurs.
