The Lanzarote International Film Festival kicked off its long-awaited 25th edition with a program of feature films that surprised and moved all attendees in equal measure. Between May 15 and 17, the public was able to enjoy three exceptional screenings in emblematic cultural spaces of the island such as the Municipal Theater of San Bartolomé and El Almacén, where the short film screenings will continue this week.
The Culture Councilor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Jesús Machín, highlighted the relevance of this new edition of the Lanzarote International Film Festival, emphasizing that "it is essential to continue supporting spaces like this, where cinema becomes a tool to reflect, excite and bring us closer to other realities."
The opening of the festival took place in El Almacén with the screening of Lo Carga El Diablo, a comedy directed by Guillermo Polo that offers a satirical and fresh look at superstitions and popular beliefs. The following day, the same stage hosted the presentation of Un Paseo por El Borne. The film, a drama that invites reflection on identity and collective memory through the streets of Barcelona, has won 29 international awards.
Finally, the Municipal Theater of San Bartolomé was the setting for the screening of the documentary Noah, directed by Louise Brix Andersen. This intimate work portrays the life of Noah Higón, who shares his experience living with a rare disease. After the screening, attendees were able to enjoy a discussion with its director and protagonist, an example of the more than 3 million people who currently suffer from rare diseases in the national territory.
With this powerful and diverse opening, the Lanzarote International Film Festival promotes "a cinema that excites, questions and reflects reality from multiple perspectives," according to the organization in a statement. The quality of the productions presented and the connection between filmmakers, the public and themes augur a memorable edition in this 25th anniversary, consolidating the festival as a cultural reference on the national and international scene.
This film event is organized by Fisme Producciones, with the support of the Culture Area of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, the Government of the Canary Islands, the Lanzarote Film Commission Canary Island Films, the Canarian Institute of Cultural Development and the Society for Foreign Promotion of Lanzarote through its product brand Lanzarote Film Commission, Promotur Turismo de Canarias, the Arrecife City Council and the Centers of Art, Culture and Tourism.
