The House of Bernarda Alba, at the Librada Hall in Arrecife

‘The House of Bernarda Alba’, the classic of the great exponent of the Generation of 27, Federico García Lorca, arrives this weekend in Arrecife. It will do so at the hands of the Amateur Theater Group of Arrecife, which will take to the stage of the capital's Librada Hall to interpret this drama of deep Spain.

The first performance will be on Friday, February 6, at 9:00 p.m. On Saturday, the performance will begin at 8:00 p.m. Tickets, which are priced at 8 euros, can be purchased online or at the hall's box office, from one hour before the performance.

‘The House of Bernarda Alba’ is one of the best-known dramas by Federico García Lorca. After the death of her second husband, Bernarda imposes a strict mourning on her five daughters, whom she will not let leave the house for several years. In that quasi-claustrophobic environment that is generated in the family home, this story of jealousy and passions takes place; envies and quarrels between the sisters, which will end in tragic consequences. In this work, the Granada poet shows the deep Spain of the early 20th century, anchored in misery, clinging to violence and prone to religious fanaticism, a panorama that Lorca always knew how to portray in his brief but intense literary career.

The GATEA proposal is directed by Salvador Leal and the cast is made up of Maribel Arduán, Mayra Torres, Carmen Sancristóbal, Flavia Baridón, Carmen Rodríguez, Elena Guadalupe, Manoli Fernández and Reyes Moreno.
