Last Sunday, the Santo Domingo Convent of Teguise, with a full house, hosted the 'Requiem by Mozart' concert, which was performed by the 'Coro Reyes Bartlet de Puerto de la Cruz', directed by José Híjar, and organized by the 'Orquesta Clásica de Lanzarote'. An orchestra composed of various musicians, which also includes the young Lanzarote violinist Pablo Araya, acting as Concertino Juan Manuel Díaz, the soprano Satomi Morimoto, the mezzo-soprano Silvia Zorita, the tenor Carlos Javier Méndez and the bass Augusto Brito, all under the direction of José María Vicente, who directs the 86 musicians for this magnificent musical work.
The attending public was informed that the concert would be recorded live to be edited into a discographic work and thus, to record this unusual spectacle with extreme quality. A high-quality work that the director José María Vicente has managed to instill in each and every one of the musicians, something that the attending public was able to appreciate until the end of the concert.
In addition, after the final greetings and continuous applause, as a sign of gratitude, the director offered the work 'Ave Verum by Mozart'.
The acoustic quality of the convent, together with the atmosphere created with the projection on the large side wall of the room, located behind the orchestra and choirs, as well as the large enramada cross next to the piano surrounded by candles and the lighting of ceilings, walls and altarpieces, placed the public in an environment conducive to listening to this work considered one of the most important in classical music.
The musical quality of the Reyes Bartlet choir, directed by José Híjar, was exceptional, taking into account its 46 members and its long history as a semi-professional choir. With very demanding stages and scores, which has led it to participate with the 'Tenerife Symphony Orchestra' on a regular basis. The quality was expressed in the pianissimos and crescendos of the Requiem, accentuating the fortes in the four strings, Soprano, Contraltos, Tenors and Basses.
An orchestra formed by 29 musicians, divided into strings, first violins, second violins, violas, cellos, double bass in the woodwinds, clarinets and bassoon, and in the winds formed by trombones, trumpets and the percussion of timpani.
Without a doubt, the Villa de Teguise was the scene of one of the most important concerts that is remembered, where the attendees will remember it for a long time and in the not too distant future, they will have the opportunity to listen to it again when the album goes on sale.
