The festivities in honor of Nuestra Señora del Carmen that are being held these days in the Plaza del Varadero of Puerto del Carmen will have one more year with an inclusive day for children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) on Wednesday, August 6, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
This day, initially scheduled for this Monday, has been moved to Wednesday to ensure greater coverage of the necessary low light and sound intensity, taking into account the programming of the festivities. The opening of the fair and stalls will be done without music and with regulated lights.
The City Council of Tías has included for years in the festivities of Nuestra Señora del Carmen an option of leisure designed for people with autism and their families, inviting them to enjoy these celebrations in an environment that overcomes barriers and breaks prejudices.
The Councilor for Festivities, Miriam Hernández, explains that the objective of the government group is to "build a truly inclusive world of leisure in which people on the autism spectrum, as well as their families, can feel good."
“We facilitate a day in which we create the best conditions so that all people, regardless of their condition, can enjoy leisure experiences in equality. This is an important step that we have consolidated in the Carmen festivities,” she adds.
People with autism, which is not a disease but a condition, generally want to relate to other people, but they need a sensitized environment that understands them as they are. Therefore, empathy and understanding are fundamental in the entire environment with the autistic condition.
