The Tías City Council has presented the candidacy of businessman Antonio Manuel Cruz Díaz for the 'Isla de Lanzarote and Distinguished Tourism' awards in the category of 'Personality of extensive trajectory'.
The candidacy is based on the "business experience of Antonio Cruz in the tourism sector", who opened a branch of 'Viajes Canora' in Puerto del Carmen in 1981, a receptive agency that represented the tour operators ITS, Kauphof Reisen, Hertie and Kuoni Switzerland.
Antonio Cruz, who recently passed away, managed to "turn 'Viajes Canora' into an issuing agency" and diversified "his businesses by offering tourist excursions to Isla de Lobos and Papagayo after the acquisition of the César 2 boat together with Luca Moracce".
His connection with the tourism sector was extended through 'Villa Florida Explotaciones' and 'Penta Tours', as he managed "the 'Acuario Sol' and 'Isla de Lobos' apartment complexes in Lanzarote and 'Villa Florida' in Fuerteventura.
In addition, he served as "treasurer" in the Association of Tourism Entrepreneurs (Aetur) and in the Lanzarote Chamber of Commerce and was "closely connected with both the Asolan hotel association and the SPEL".
Antonio Cruz was "one of the founding members" of the Lanzarote Tourism Federation (FTL) in 2019, “a milestone that meant the integration of all activities in the tourism sector into a single business organization,” concludes the City Council.
