Youth in a previous edition of Across Hip Hop Lanzarote

This week is presented in Lanzarote with a tremendous variety of cultural events. There will be music, dance, theater, talks, humor and workshops.

These days stand out for the celebration of many cultural events around LGTBIQ+ pride to celebrate sexual and affective diversity, since this Friday is Pride Day.

Also this week highlights the presentation at El Salinero of the latest edition of Across Hip-Hop Lanzarote in which young people from Arrecife, Playa Honda and Puerto del Carmen will show what they have learned in the last year. 

 

MUSIC

  • Sangre. Dani Llamas

The musician from Jerez, Dani Llamas, presents the album Sangre at El Almacén, which completes his flamenco trilogy that began with the albums “La Verdad” first and “A Fuego” later. 

After a long career dedicated to punk and rock in all its aspects, Llamas took a turn in his career with this flamenco trilogy with which he unleashes the sounds with which he grew up in his native Jerez to create his own sound.

His songs include influences from folk-rock, punk and guitar pop, and at the same time, the poetic depth of the land.

  • Mel Ömana

The composer and singer from Gran Canaria will be the grand finale to the pride events in San Bartolomé. Her performance will take place after the manifesto is read and the flag is raised at 11:00 a.m. in León y Castillo Square, next to the Town Hall.

When: Friday, June 28 from 11:00 a.m.

  • Los Lola / The Miracle (Queen Tribute)

The rock band from Gran Canaria, Los Lola, will perform on Saturday in the Plaza de la Constitución in Villa de Teguise. Next, the group The Miracle will perform a concert in tribute to Freddy Mercury and his mythical band.

DANCE

  • Across Hip-hop

The urban dance project ACROSS HIP-HOP is a cultural project aimed at bringing urban dance closer to the young people of Lanzarote. Thus, through dance, young people share learning, discipline and companionship.

This year, the Xtreme UP Dance Studio schools in Arrecife and Celia Medina Studio in San Bartolomé have trained three groups of young people from Lanzarote in Arrecife, Playa Honda and Puerto del Carmen, who will present what they have learned this Saturday at El Salinero.

THEATER

  • Live Teguise. The Invisible Diva

The musical La Diva Invisible is the culmination of the Live Teguise festival which, on the occasion of Pride Week, celebrates the diversity of the island. La Diva Invisible immerses us in the world of an artist who runs a café theater and who, after five years of absence from the stage, decides to return to offer a concert in tribute to a famous Italian singer. 

However, her return is overshadowed by the unexpected presence of three of her ex-partners, which will awaken emotions and memories of the past. «La Diva Invisible» is a song to diversity that invites us to reflect on the importance of being true to ourselves.

When: Friday, June 28 at 8:30 p.m. and Thursday, June 13 at 8:00 p.m.

  • Live Teguise. Antonia San Juan. Interview with my daughter Mari. 

Through comedy and with cabaret reminiscences, Antonia San Juan will present in Teguise a show in which she makes a fierce criticism of machismo established as something natural and socially accepted.

And she achieves this with intelligent and close twists and occurrences, and with an interpretive capacity that leaves no one indifferent due to her original way of caricaturing reality.

When: Sunday, June 30 at 8:30 p.m.

LITERATURE

  • Biblioplaya 

From Monday, July 1, Biblioplaya returns to Puerto del Carmen, the summer initiative to promote reading. Hours from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. 

On Playa Grande itself, you can access more than 300 titles in Spanish, English and German. Specifically on Avenida de las Playas 24. The initiative will last this summer until August 14.

HUMOR

  • Aarón Gómez

The comic artist from Tenerife, Aarón Gómez, will perform next Tuesday, July 2, at 8:30 p.m. in La Vegueta on the occasion of the festivities of Nuestra Señora de Regla.

CINEMA

  • Lanzarote Youth Cinema. The teacher who promised the sea

The Lanzarote Youth Cinema project presents “The teacher who promised the sea” at El Almacén. A feature film directed by Patricia Font that vindicates the Spanish historical memory through the true story of Antoni Benaiges, a Republican teacher from a rural school in Burgos who promoted an innovative pedagogical project and was shot at the beginning of the Civil War.

In the film, it is Ariadna, Benaiges' great-granddaughter, who discovers that her grandfather has been looking for the remains of her father, who disappeared in the Civil War, for some time. 

Determined to help him, she travels to Burgos, where they are exhuming a mass grave in which her great-grandfather could be buried. There she will learn more about the story of that teacher born in Tarragona and who promised his students to take them to see the sea.

  • Buñuel Cinema. HLM Pussy

The Buñuel Cinema of El Almacén offers this Thursday the second session of the film “HLM Pussy”, the debut film by filmmaker Nora El Hourch.

  • Teguise Live. Pink Calima

Within the Teguise festival to celebrate diversity on the occasion of Pride Week, the film «Calima Rosa» will be screened at the Costa Teguise civic center. The screening will be attended by its director Ismael Cabrera. The documentary is about sexual and gender dissidence in the Canary Islands during the Franco regime. It tells the story of seven people from seven different islands. 

When: Thursday, June 28 at 11:00 a.m. in La Graciosa and at 6:00 p.m. in Costa Teguise.

  • Teguise Live. Shorts for visibility

From this Saturday, June 29 to next July 2, the Costa Teguise Civic Center hosts screenings of LGTBI-themed short films at 6:00 p.m.

TALKS

  • Against oblivion. Some voids analyzed from speculation

The art historian and exhibition curator Dalia de la Rosa raises in this talk entitled “Against oblivion” the fact that every narration has fissures and asks who fills those gaps and to whom those spaces belong. 

The meeting is part of the conference cycle “A room of one's own. Vision and footprint of untold female stories”.

  • Stories of women in the art system

In conversation format, the curator and cultural manager Adonay Bermúdez brings together some of the speakers of the conference cycle on untold female stories, precisely so that they can share the vicissitudes, conflicts and challenges encountered in the development of their profession in the world of art and culture.

Semíramis González, Elena Ramírez, Dalia de la Rosa, Estefanía Camejo and Emma LLG will participate.

WORKSHOP

  • LGTBIQ+ Lanzarote visual memory

The artist and visual researcher María LaMuy proposes an artistic workshop to tell individual stories of the LGTBIQ + community of Lanzarote. Materials will be created in the form of posters, collages, fanzines... through the artistic technique of photo transfer. The workshop is recommended for people over 16 years of age.

When: From July 2 at 5:00 p.m. Continues on July 3, 4 and 5.
