The last week of July in Lanzarote is full of cultural events. This Friday, July 26, is the white night of La Villa de Teguise, with more than 40 cultural activities throughout the town until 2:00 a.m. the following day.

Also this week continues the Canarias Jazz & Más festival, which brings to Arrecife the Gran Canaria timple player Germán López and the Serbian singer and guitarist Ana Popović.

In addition, from the hand of the Lava Live International Festival, Manuel Turizo and Tito el Bambino arrive in Lanzarote on Saturday. There are also several film, literary and humor proposals.

THE WHITE NIGHT OF LA VILLA

This Friday, July 26, the twelfth edition of the White Night is celebrated with more than 40 cultural activities in eleven different locations in La Villa de Teguise.

The day will feature musical performances, parrandas, wine tastings, parades, fashion shows, dissemination and virtual reality activities of Latin sailing, rapid painting contests, theatrical performances, exhibitions and children's workshops.

The initiative will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Library with children's workshops and will conclude at 2:00 a.m. with the performance of the group "Swing Latino" on the stage of Plaza de Los Leones.

When: July 26 from 4.30 p.m. to 2.00 a.m. on July 27.

MUSIC
  • Yul Ballesteros Trío. Soul

El Almacén is the stage chosen for the presentation in Lanzarote of “Alma”, the new project by guitarist and composer Yul Ballesteros, which shows his personal and musical evolution. In this project, Ballesteros plays with Tana Santana on double bass and Akior García on drums.

“Alma” is a work that is based on personal growth and musical maturity that is acquired over the years, and is reflected in compositions based on experience.

  • Germán López. Canarias Jazz & Más

The Canarias Jazz & Más Festival presents the Gran Canaria timple player Germán López, one of the performers who has most bet on the sound possibilities of the instrument far from the folkloric field.

His career demonstrates a clear inclination for dialogue and fusion with other cultures and artists of different styles. López arrives in Lanzarote to present his latest album recorded with the prestigious guitarist from Cadiz, Antonio Toledo.

A project that has been presented in the USA, Canada, Portugal, Czech Republic, Croatia, Portugal and Germany among others. In 2017 he managed to make the leap to the Asian continent with a tour of China.

  • Ana Popović. Canarias Jazz & Más

Also within the Canarias Jazz & Más Festival, the Serbian singer and guitarist Ana Popović arrives in Lanzarote, an artist who has managed to create her own personal style by fusing influences from traditional blues, rock, jazz and funk with her virtuosity on the guitar and her powerful voice.

Ana Popović has been nominated twice for the 2024 Blues Awards for her latest album.

  • Manuel Turizo. Tito El Bambino and Demphra La Factoría. Lava Live

The Lanzarote Sports City will host the premiere of the Lava Live International Festival on July 27, 2024, a new event that is committed to live music and will feature, among others, Manuel Turizo, Tito el Bambino, and Demphra La Factoría.

HUMOR
  • Servando and Panchita. Flying I go.

Humorous show by the actors Nieves Bravo and Javier Peña Pinto, who will represent scenes from Servando and Panchita, characters from ‘En otra clave’, the program inherited from ‘En clave de ja’ that has been causing laughter for years on Canarian Television.

  • Street stories with Vicky Dos Santos and Aarón Márquez. First Oral Narration Cycle

On Saturday 27 from 11 a.m. in the San Francisco Javier Sociocultural Center with Vicky Dos Santos and Aarón Márquez in charge of relating ‘Street stories’ in a meeting designed to enjoy as a family from 5 years of age.

  • She Said "Uncovered". Lanzarote Youth Cinema

The film She Said, translated into Spanish as Al Descubierto, is an American production that addresses the problems of sexual harassment and machismo in Hollywood, from a journalistic perspective.

In 2017, two reporters from the New York Times, Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor, published a journalistic investigation into the sexual abuse of the famous producer Harvey Weinstein that triggered the #Metoo movement around the world and broke decades of silence on the issue of sexual assault in Hollywood.

  • Buñuel Cinema. Anatomy of a fall

The Buñuel Cinema of El Almacén offers the second screening of the film “Anatomy of a Fall”. It is a judicial thriller that dissects a marital relationship through the trial of the wife after a fatal fall of the husband.

The film has received many awards. Oscar for Best Screenplay, Palme d'Or in Cannes for Best Film. Two Golden Globes, 6 César from the French Academy and also the Goya for best European film.

When: Thursday, July 24 at 8:30 p.m.

  • My Neighbor Totoro. Summer traveling cinema

The summer traveling cinema continues. The Japanese film My Neighbor Totoro, multi-award winning and chosen by the British magazine Time Out as the best animated film in history, will be screened in Playa Honda.

The film and its character Totoro have become cultural icons of global scope. Set in a period that is both modern and nostalgic, the film creates a fantastic, but strangely believable, universe of links between human beings and nature.

In the 50s, a Japanese family moves to the countryside. The two daughters, Satsuki and Mei, become friends with Totoro, a spirit of the forest. The father is a university professor who stimulates the imagination of his daughters by telling them fables and magical stories about goblins, ghosts and protective spirits of the homes, while the mother is sick in the hospital.

  • Festivalito Tour 2024. Lanzarote Film Club. Sample of short films.

For the third consecutive year, Cine Club Lanzarote presents a selection of the most outstanding short films among those that have been filmed during the week of the Festivalito de La Palma.

The Festivalito was the first festival in Europe dedicated exclusively to digital cinema. It was also a pioneer in the world in incorporating a filming contest within a film event.

The Festivalito has creativity as its flag as an instrument of awareness and social change.

  • Ghostbusters. Summer traveling cinema

Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Sigourney Weaver star in this popular family comedy with a catchy soundtrack, which became the highest grossing of the decade.

Although its special effects produce less impact than tenderness today, the images of New York in the early 80s and mythical locations of the Big Apple such as the Public Library, the Lincoln Center or the Tavern on the Green, are part of the universal cinematographic imaginary.

  • Stop Making Sense. Buñuel Cinema

The Buñuel Cinema of El Almacén presents the highly acclaimed musical documentary “Stop Making Sense” which has recently been restored in 4K to coincide with the fortieth anniversary of its premiere.

The 1984 film, shot by filmmaker Jonathan Demme, is considered by critics to be the best filmed concert of all time. Stop Making Sense stars the members of the band Talking Heads, with David Byrne at the helm.

It was filmed with seven cameras and during four nights of concerts that the Talking Heads gave at the Pantages Theater on Hollywood Boulevard during Christmas 1983.

TALKS

  • Drag Day. Diversity Week

Dialogue table with drags from the island of Lanzarote where the figure of the drag will be analyzed as an icon in the fight for LGTBIQA+ rights. Later they will perform.

EXHIBITIONS

Murals in Argana Alta. Desidia Collective

The first mural circuit organized by the Desidia collective, which promotes mural art in Lanzarote, will take place between July 29 and August 11. Four artists will intervene four walls in different locations in the Argana Alta neighborhood. The objective is to give visibility to local artists and the cultural, social and architectural heritage of Arrecife.

  • Dreamy strokes.

The El Aljibe de Haría exhibition hall hosts the painting exhibition by the artist Vasilisa Arefieva Trazos Oníricos.
