The best of the week from July 11 to 17: lots of music, cinema, literature and exhibitions

La Voz offers you a summary of the most interesting cultural events of the week in Lanzarote

Now in the middle of summer, Lanzarote is filled with patron saint festivities such as the Festivities of the Virgen del Carmen in Tinajo, Arrecife, Teguise and La Graciosa, or the festivities of La Magdalena in Masdache which begin this Friday, celebrations that come full of events.

Also this week there are several music festivals such as the Arrecife Summer Fest in which artists such as Beret, Efecto Pasillo, Carlos Jean or Tatiana Delalvz will play. Another festival is Soplo de Letras which brings together all lovers of letters and invites prominent professionals from the world of interpretation, humor, poetry, music... This Festival is mostly held in Tenerife, but one of its concerts, that of the Dominican artist Vicente García, winner of four Latin Grammys, is held in La Villa de Teguise this Saturday, July 13.

The week also includes many other cultural options in the section of literature, cinema and exhibitions. Among them, one with photographs by Chema Madoz, the first exhibition of the National Photography Award in the Canary archipelago.

 

MUSIC

 

  • Timplephonies

This Friday, La Recova in Arrecife will be the stage for the concert 'Symbiosis' by the trio 'Timplephonies' formed by three musicians from Lanzarote: Adrián Niz, José Vicente Pérez and Alexis Lemes. They combine timples with guitar and double bass.

Several guest soloists will participate.

When: Friday, July 12 at 8:30 p.m.

Free admission until full capacity.

 

  • Acatife Festival

This Friday marks the 30th anniversary of the Acatife festival, by the cultural association from Teguise. The event will feature the participation of the mythical band from La Palma, Taburiente, who will accompany the hosts in this year's concert.

When: Friday, July 12 at 9:00 p.m.

Where: Municipal Tent of the Villa de Teguise.

  • Vicente García. Soplo de Letras Festival.

This Saturday also in the Villa de Teguise the Dominican composer, musician and singer Vicente García, who has received four Latin Grammys, will give a concert within the Soplo de Letras Festival that is held in Tenerife but this year has this extension to Teguise.

Vicente García's music celebrates diversity through the combination of different genres, such as merengue and bachata, with electronic music, RnB and trap.

  • Olga Cerpa and Mestisay

The Mestisay group will offer concerts in the Villa de Teguise and in La Graciosa on July 15 and 16 with their Jallos show. Mestisay is one of the Canarian musical groups with more tradition and international projection.

Olga Cerpa is considered one of the most outstanding female voices of the archipelago. She has been nominated twice for the Latin Grammy for Best Folk Album and Best Traditional Tropical Album.

When: Monday, July 15 (Villa de Teguise) and Tuesday, July 16 (La Graciosa).

  • Arrecife Summer Fest. Efecto Pasillo

The musical group from Gran Canaria combines different sounds such as rock, pop, funk and Latin music.

  • Arrecife Summer Fest. Tatiana Delalvz

The urban music artist from Cádiz knew the world of music from a very young age, especially thanks to her mother Rocío Alcalá, who is a renowned flamenco singer.

  • Arrecife Summer Fest. Carlos Jean

Carlos Jean is a Spanish musician, producer, DJ, publicist and singer. Nominated 6 times for the Latin Grammys and with an Ondas Award for best DJ.

  • Arrecife Summer Fest. Beret

The artist from Seville mixes urban heavy with reggaeton.

LITERATURE

 

  • First Cycle of Oral Narration, Let Me Tell You’

On Saturday 13th, the Argana Baja Sociocultural Center will host from 8:30 p.m. the ‘First Cycle of Oral Narration, Let Me Tell You’ by Cristina Temprano who will narrate ‘Sicalipsis. Word of Eros’.

Literary contest “Letters for a party”

Participants must address their arguments in the form of a letter to a neighbor of the town, real or fictional, in order to share the experiences of their participation in the patron saint festival of Puerto del Carmen, which they attended as a child, and remember the activities related to the marine environment.

First prize: 500 euros. Second prize: 300 euros. Third prize: 200 euros.

When: Until July 31.

  • XIV edition of the Radio Lanzarote Short Story Contest Summer 2024

On July 1, the XIV edition of the Radio Lanzarote Short Story contest began. This time the contest pays tribute to the writer Miguel de Unamuno one hundred years after his exile to Fuerteventura.

Those who want to participate must send a micro-story that does not exceed 100 words. The winner will get a dinner for two at the Jameos del Agua restaurant, the second prize is one of the unusual experiences for two people in Montañas del Fuego and the third prize is a brunch in the Cactus Garden.

  • Buñuel Cinema. Evil Does Not Exist

The Buñuel Cinema of El Almacén is showing again this Thursday the film “Evil Does Not Exist” by the Japanese film director Ryūsuke Hamaguchi.

It is an ecological fable set in a rural area of Japan that makes us reflect on our relationship with the natural world. Among other awards, it won the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival.

  • Traveling Summer Cinema. Matrix and Adam

The Tenique cultural association, together with the Cabildo de Lanzarote and the seven town councils of the island, are launching the third edition of Traveling Summer Cinema with different outdoor screenings throughout Lanzarote.

The program will open in the Plaza del Fondeadero of Puerto del Carmen with the films “Matrix” and “Adam”, on July 12 and 13 respectively.

  • Buñuel Cinema. Anatomy of a Fall

The Buñuel Cinema of El Almacén presents the film “Anatomy of a Fall”.

It is a judicial thriller that dissects a marital relationship through the trial of the wife after a fatal fall of the husband.

The film has received many awards. Oscar for Best Screenplay, Palme d'Or in Cannes for Best Film. Two Golden Globes, 6 César awards from the French Academy and also the Goya for best European film.

When: Wednesday, July 17 at 7:30 p.m.

EXHIBITIONS

 

  • Tino Alemán. Rhodoliths

Yesterday Wednesday in La Casona de Femés the exhibition Rhodoliths, by the artist Tino Alemán, was inaugurated. The exhibition is inspired by this coralline alga whose unique beauty, shapes and textures captivated the artist from the first moment he saw them, and which fulfills a double purpose: to show the natural beauty of the islands and to draw attention to the need for their care.

When: From 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., from Monday to Friday, until August 31.

 

  • Chema Madoz. The nature of things

The International Museum of Contemporary Art of the Castillo de San José presents “The Nature of Things”, the first individual exhibition of Chema Madoz in the Canary Islands.

Chema Madoz is one of the most prestigious photographers on the national scene and has been awarded numerous prizes such as the National Photography Prize. The exhibition includes a wide selection of black and white photographs, in which Madoz creates poetic metaphors from everyday objects.

When: From Wednesday, July 10 at 7:30 p.m.
