La Voz offers you a summary of the most interesting cultural events of the week in Lanzarote with the collaboration of the Department of Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands

Road to Hip Hop is one of the dance shows this week. Culture.

Having just celebrated Dance and Book Day, their ramifications in Lanzarote continue with several dance shows and the dramatization of texts by José Saramago. The week also includes classical and traditional Canarian music concerts, humor, theater, cinema, a talk about the islands and art and another about the candomblé music of Brazil. 

 

MUSIC

  • Bel Canto. Candelaria González and Canary Quartet

From the hand of soprano Candelaria González Torres and the Canary Guitar Quartet, this project shows emblematic arias by composers such as Donizetti, Bellini, Rossini, Mozart, Offenbach, Giménez, Bizet, Debussy,
Verdi and Puccini.

When: Friday, April 25 at 8:30 p.m.

Where: Casa Museo del Timple, La Villa de Teguise.

  • Teguise Music Showcase

Teguise Music Showcase will bring together eleven bands and artists from Lanzarote this Saturday, April 26, in the historic center of Villa de Teguise, offering the public an uninterrupted musical day distributed in three
stages located in different enclaves of the historical complex.

  • ‘Immortal Puccini: 100 years of passion and drama’


The II Cycle of Dramatized Concerts promoted by the Lanzarote tenor Pancho Corujo continues, in charge of the dramaturgy and which will also feature the participation of Yeray Betancor, actor and narrator; Laura del Río, soprano; and Fernando Briones, on the piano.

  • IV Teguey Festival

The San Bartolomé City Council celebrates the IV Teguey Festival this weekend, a tribute to Canarian popular music and its traditions.

DANCE

  • Suelo y Aire. Pieces I. Contemporary Dance Show

The contemporary dance show Suelo y Aire offers a careful selection of pieces in which movement becomes the central axis of artistic expression. In this first selection of pieces you can
enjoy the proposals of Nangilima Project, Raquel Jara, Compañía Flamenca Rocío Pozo and Teresa Lorenzo.

When: Thursday, April 24, two performances, at 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

  • Suelo y Aire. Pieces II. Contemporary Dance Show

The contemporary dance show Suelo y Aire continues. This time the pieces are by the artists Guadalupe Torres, Compañía Wettribute, Alicia Hernández Butragueño and Richard Mascherin.

  • Road to hip hop

Within the programming of Suelo y aire 2025, an urban dance show is presented that covers the various aspects of hip hop culture.

  • Dance Gala

The Municipal Sports Hall of Tías will offer a gala this Sunday, whose full name is XIV International Dance Day, on the occasion of the anniversary that was celebrated last Tuesday. The show will feature hundreds of dancers from 14 dance schools from all over the island. They will include everything from classical dance to flamenco, jazz or urban dances.

  • Lanzarote Film Club. La Umbría


Lanzarote Film Club returns, in collaboration with the Isla Literaria Association and within the framework of activities of the III Book Fair, presents a milestone of Canarian cinema: La Umbría, by Pepe Dámaso. It is a
1975 film adaptation of the theatrical poem by the Gran Canaria writer Alonso Quesada, author honored on the Day of Canarian Letters
Canarias 2025. After the screening there will be a talk.

This documentary is a journey through the life and contributions of the illustrious universal Canarian scientist Blas Cabrera Felipe. From his humble

European in the first half of the 20th century.

  • Txabi Franquesa. Scotland

  • Whispers of Saramago

In the José Saramago House Museum of Tías, a theatrical show will be held with fragments of various literary and theatrical works by the Nobel Prize winner for Literature.
Actors and actresses from Portugal, Tenerife, and Lanzarote perform.

  • Candomblé: music on the shores of mysticism

Within the programming of the No me hables de música cycle, the teacher and researcher specialized in music and culture of Brazil, Carlos Castro Brunetto, will talk about the origins of Brazilian music and its link with the religions of candomblé and umbanda, whose origin is found in the spiritual rites of African slaves who arrived in Brazil since the 17th century.
