The Arrecife House of Culture finally reopened its doors this Thursday after last week's failed attempt, when the inauguration was canceled due to lack of an opening license. The event, which took place at 9 p.m., was attended by the mayor of Arrecife, Eva de Anta, the councilor for Culture, Rafael Juan González, the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés, and the Minister of Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands, Isaac Castellano, among other authorities.
The Agustín de la Hoz House of Culture, which reopens after 12 years of closure, consists of twelve spaces open to the public: three exhibition halls, a meeting room, an audiovisual room, two multipurpose rooms, the César Manrique Room (with two frescoes by the artist from 1947, restored by Giovanni Bruno), a library, the covered central courtyard, with a grand piano and folding screen for projections and the back patio, which is uncovered and houses the sculpture 'Woman carrying a minimalist object' by Leopoldo Emperador. Soon, the cultural and tourist information point that is currently located in the Music Kiosk of the José Ramírez Cerdá Park will also be moved to this space.
The interior walls of the House of Culture are decorated with donated works that six Canarian artists linked to Lanzarote have donated: Rufina Santana, Santiago Alemán, Nuria Messeguer, Juan Bonilla, Ildefonso Aguilar and Luis Villalba
The first exhibition hosted by the Arrecife House of Culture is entitled 'From the Landscape: Visions of Contemporary Art in the Canary Islands' and houses works by 20th century Canarian authors such as Manrique, Ildefonso Aguilar, Juan Gopar, Andrés Solana and Miguel Panadero. The House of Culture also houses a room dedicated to the Lanzarote Biennial, 'ArteLanzarote 2017', focused on the work of Agustín Espinosa "Lanzarote 28º-7º".
The program of the Arrecife House of Culture will not only consist of exhibitions, but also music, dance, literature and a wide range of conferences and workshops. In fact, on the night of this Thursday, you could already enjoy the percussion and electronic concert by Luis Tabuenca.
