Teguise approves in plenary session to use the treasury surplus to pay three expropriations

The government group explains that it is a "mere formal matter", because the initial objective is to have "funds for the City Council to face its economic commitments without suffering financial blockades"

The Teguise City Council approved this Thursday in plenary session to admit for processing the allegation to the modification that was made in the last plenary session to develop a 'Payment Plan' and use the treasury surplus for investments. Therefore, a loan will be used to execute investments in the municipality, while the treasury surplus will be used to pay three expropriations that the municipal corporation has pending.

Initially, the previous municipal plenary session approved a budget modification to dedicate part of the treasury surplus to pay some expropriations, while also giving the green light to the request for a credit of "3,100,000 euros" to definitively settle the expenses derived from old judicial procedures, such as the case of Caleta de Caballo, and some other procedures that were pending for some years and that the time has come to solve.

However, a formal issue makes it "necessary to exchange the procedures and the loan will be used for the investment plan", while the surplus will be used to pay "three expropriations", the city council has pointed out.

In any case, the government group explains that it is a "mere formal matter", because the initial objective is to have "funds for the City Council to face its economic commitments without suffering financial blockades", so the measure adopted will allow to have "liquidity and avoid questioning the municipal economic situation".

The loan request is a "common formula" in institutions, and its sole purpose is to "prevent interest from continuing to increase", which would indebt the City Council and force it to face items in future years of the budget, which would "directly subtract" from other items of basic public services for the municipality.

In this sense, the government group defends that, apart from the formal issue, the important thing is that this decision approved in the plenary session defends in an "effective and practical way" the interests of the residents of Teguise, since it only intends to solve a situation that "comes from behind and that must be resolved so that it does not affect the basic municipal services".

Finally, the mayor, Olivia Duque, reported to the municipal plenary session on a meeting held this Wednesday in Tenerife with the Minister of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands, Poli Suárez, to "unblock" the situation created with the removal of the barracks, which is delayed due to the "little interest" shown by the previous socialist government, which "tendered the works last year" despite the "concern" existing for years.

In this sense, Minister Poli Suarez promised to speed it up to solve the problem as soon as possible.
