The residents of Tahíche honored the patron saint Santiago Apóstol this Monday during the town's festivities, between religion, music and lots of humor.
The celebration began with the Eucharist at 7:00 p.m., presided over by the parish priest of Teguise, Matías Gula, who was assisted by Miguel Ángel Sosa in a small chapel that was overflowing. Some parishioners even had to follow it from the adjoining surroundings.
The songs during the mass were enlivened by Josefina de León and Diego Fajardo and, once the Eucharist was over, the procession of the patron saint Santiago Apóstol and the Virgen del Carmen began, who is also worshiped by this town with a maritime tradition.
During the tour, both saints toured the streets surrounding the hermitage and, both at the exit and at the arrival, the Guanapay Folklore Group of Teguise enlivened the moment with its traditional Canarian folklore, with isas, seguidillas and malagueñas.
Once the religious events were over, the residents moved to the tent installed in the Santiago El Mayor Socio-Cultural Center to enjoy a musical and humor gala that included the musical performance of the Calicanto group, among others.
This is a group made up of 17 women, with the collaboration of David, Toni and Acoran and under the musical direction of Vanessa Rijo, who entertained the public with a wide and varied repertoire, with boleros, rancheras, ballads and Canarian music.
The second part of the gala hosted the performance of the great Canarian comedian Saúl Romero, who has toured several stages of the archipelago and Madrid. The public was very participatory during both shows, accompanying Calicanto in some refrains, getting involved in Saúl's daily adventures and supporting them with their applause.
