After a period of renovations to its facilities, the Torrelavega Society of Culture, Recreation and Sports reopened its doors with renewed energy and the firm purpose of continuing to be a cultural reference in Lanzarote. On Thursday night at 8:00 p.m., the opening ceremony of the long-awaited Cultural Conference was held, which this year revolves around the theme "Lanzarote and Peasant Culture".
The capacity was filled with members and supporters who, as is tradition, did not want to miss this emotional reunion with culture. The vice president of the Society, Luis González, was in charge of welcoming the attendees, detailing with enthusiasm the program planned for the coming weeks. Music, conferences, talks, exhibitions and other activities will fill the Society with life until November 13, the date on which the conference will conclude.
The president, Antonio Ramos, also took the floor to thank the authorities and the public for their presence, reiterating the invitation to actively participate in each of the programmed events. Surrounded by the members of the Board of Directors, he shared with the attendees one of the most emotional moments of the night: the presentation of the Gold Medal, awarded to the Torrelavega Society by the Government of the Canary Islands on May 30 at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, on the occasion of Canary Islands Day. The ovation from the public was a reflection of the shared pride for this well-deserved recognition.
The event also included the intervention of the councilor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Samuel Martín, responsible for the Area of Landscape and Food Sovereignty, who had the honor of officially inaugurating the two exhibitions that accompany these conferences: Agrarian Landscapes, by photographer Gustavo Medina and Farm Implements, a carefully curated collection of traditional tools gathered by Tomás Acosta. Both exhibitions will be open to the public until November 13, offering a deep and sensitive look at the link between the Lanzarote landscape and its peasant culture.
After the words of the councilor, the night was transformed with the concert called Identity with Acatife. The popular music group, arrived from the historic Villa de Teguise, was presented reinforced for the occasion with four friends and great soloists to whom there is no musical genre that resists them: Almudena Hernández, Santiago Ramírez, Sara Bermúdez and Juanma Padrón. Surrounded by the 30 members of Acatife, they offered a musical journey full of emotion and identity, interpreting songs included in their eight record works such as: El Diablo de Timanfaya, Soy Canario, Identidad, Malagueñas a a Vida, Bogando por la Marina, Mi pueblo and César, among others.
Each of the songs was warmly applauded by a devoted audience who, standing, asked the group to continue. As a final gift. Acatife offered an emotional encore entitled Isa to the 8 Islands, which put the finishing touch to a memorable night and the inauguration of a conference that promises to continue to excite.
With this brilliant opening, the Torrelavega Society reaffirms its commitment to local culture and the recognition of the peasant roots that have marked the history and soul of Lanzarote.
