Miguel Ángel Carnicero proclaimed the Carmen festivities of La Graciosa

The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, invited people to enjoy all the scheduled events with "civility and respect for our town."

La Graciosa's Opening Speech

The festivities in honor of Our Lady of Carmen in La Graciosa kicked off with the proclamation by Miguel Ángel Carnicero, a doctor from Tenerife who took root in Caleta de Sebo more than 50 years ago.

Carnicero reviewed his life linked to the Eighth Island, where he arrived almost by chance when he was 16 years old and where now, after his retirement, he has established his residence. A piece of sea where he has enjoyed and enjoys with his family, who have welcomed him as just another Graciosa resident.

Friends who have become family, the island's doctor who consulted after the fishing day, and countless anecdotes that made the people of La Graciosa choose him to kick off their patron saint festivities.

The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, thanked the speaker for accepting the invitation to read this proclamation and for everything he has done for the island's residents as a medical professional, without expecting anything in return, earning the affection of the entire town.

In this sense, Betancort invited everyone "to enjoy these patron saint festivities that return to normal in La Graciosa, where young and old have space to have a good time," while alluding to "civility and respect for our town."

The councilor in charge of the Eighth Island, Alicia Páez, reviewed the festival program, encouraging participation in all the scheduled events and highlighting the importance of Miguel Ángel Carnicero, to whom "the people of La Graciosa owe a lot."

The night concluded with a concert by the Gran Canaria verseador, Yeray Rodríguez, who with his tenths and rhymes demonstrated once again his skill in the art of the word, and who also had the participation of Amaro Morales, a young verseador from Caleta de Sebo, and other young participants from Gran Canaria.
