The signing of the book Historical Reviews on the Local Police of Tías at the Socio-Cultural Center of Mácher

Last Tuesday afternoon, the Socio-Cultural Center of Mácher hosted the presentation of the book Historical Reviews on the Local Police of Tías by Juan Cruz.

Numerous residents of the municipality of Tías and other parts of the island gathered to learn firsthand about the research work carried out by the author. This constitutes an arduous task that has been collected in the 193 pages where the reader will have the opportunity to learn very curious stories and anecdotes about how the first bailiffs and municipal guards were in the early second half of the 20th century. The book talks about the pre-constitutional stage of guards and watchmen to local police, the tourist transformation of the municipality, which was a pioneer in incorporating women into the Police.

The event began with the screening of a video that collected part of the more than 100 years of history of the Local Police of Tías. Then, the interventions began with José Juan Cruz Saavedra, followed by the Chief Officer of the Local Police of Tías, Antonio Rodríguez Hernández, and giving the floor to the former director of the Canary Police Academy, María Victoria González Ares.

The interventions were closed by the author of the book, Juan Cruz Sepúlveda, who was very excited and grateful for the massive attendance of the public and explained how the process of this book had been carried out, with an idea that came from the Police themselves, to value the work of bailiffs, guards, watchmen, Municipal Police and Local Police during these 100 years.

One of the stories in the book is that of the first bailiff Silvestre Fajardo Paz, who carried out his municipal mission moving on a donkey, when the Hotel Fariones was built and a second guard was hired, whose salary the hotel contributed by paying half of the salary. With the arrival of the tourist boom, all public services were overwhelmed: health, education, security and roads, so between 1986 and 1988, 30 police officers had to be hired to guarantee citizen security.

Juan Cruz concluded his speech by commenting that this book is a "modest journey through the Local Police" and thanked the agents for their collaboration in carrying out this work that was presented on the day. Among those present was the former mayor of the Tías City Council in 1979, D. Juan Manuel Salvador Calero Rodríguez, who became the first mayor of the stage of the Spanish Democracy.

Next, the musical trio of Taboire and 3/1 Graduado Escolar performed. All attendees of the event were able to take the book home completely free and many also took it signed by the author. The event ended with a toast on the terrace of the Socio-Cultural Center of Mácher.
