The Cabildo of Lanzarote inaugurated this Friday, September 9, the XXXIII edition of the Island Craft Fair. The event took place at the Mancha Blanca Fairgrounds, and marked the beginning of this traditional event that will extend its programming until September 15.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo; the Minister of Crafts, Carmen Guadalupe; the Minister of Culture, Alberto Aguiar, and the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, among other members of both institutions.

The president spoke to welcome all attendees to the inauguration of the Fair and showed the "pride it represents for us to start this tribute to the artisans, to the artisan women of the Island and to the traditional artistic work that will be exhibited here until September 15".

"The strong roots of the Lanzarote Craft Fair among the population express, without a doubt, the great interest that exists both towards traditional craft trades, as well as towards the new crafts that are emerging as a result of the creativity of our people," said Dolores Corujo.

"This edition is very special for everyone, as it has sustainability as its banner, with numerous novelties focused on improving environmental care during the Fair, and offers a well-deserved tribute to the women who have contributed to expanding the artisan history of Lanzarote," Corujo highlighted.

The president mentioned the cultural and patrimonial interest of the event, but also alluded to the fact that the Fair "is an economic activity because it represents a source of income and a means of livelihood for artisans".

For her part, Carmen Guadalupe welcomed the visitors to the Fair and highlighted the effort made by the different areas of the Cabildo involved to make possible a larger, more modern and restriction-free event. "We went from just over 80 professional artisans to almost a hundred, from almost all the Islands, which is a sign of the growth of the Fair and the Institution's commitment to it," she said.

For his part, the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, acknowledged the good coordination between institutions and encouraged everyone to participate in a fair "that will surprise them"
