The La Oliva Folk Group celebrated the "XXIV Esteban Ramírez de León Festival" last Saturday at the Raíz del Pueblo Cultural Association. A special edition in which the group celebrated its 52nd anniversary.
The festival featured the participation of the Parranda El Lagar de Teseguite and the Altaja Cultural Association representing the island of Lanzarote, who surprised the public with traditional songs and dances, choosing among others seguidillas, sorondongo, malagueña and isa del camello.
Secondly, the family of the Folk Group "Los Aceviños", from the Ofra neighborhood in Tenerife, participated with their most representative songs and dances from the island, and which the attending public rewarded with their applause during the development of their performance of folías, tanganillo de Icod, old saltonas ending with the isa del vino.
The third place was reserved for the organizers and hosts of the festival, the members of the La Oliva folk group, who, when they entered the social hall, were received with applause by the public and the colleagues from the other invited groups. On such a special night for them due to the double event they were celebrating, they gave it their all on stage, interpreting their verses and very measured dances, the most traditional of the island of Majorera such as fulgida luna, sorondongo, folías, seguidillas and saltonas.
Before finishing his performance, an emotional recognition was carried out to Esteban Ramírez, the only active member "52 years", since the creation of the group, his grandson Juan Esteban surprised him by dedicating some emotional words and on behalf of all the members he gave him a very old photo and a watch so that he can continue for many more years. The act ended with the traditional isa majorera.
