The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Culture Department, presents in the cultural agenda for the month of April, a diverse program that focuses on contemporary creation, thought, and artistic training. The tenth edition of the dance exhibition Suelo y aire and the literary gathering Letras Aisladas are consolidated as two of the main axes of a month that also offers live music, cinema, workshops, and spaces for reflection.

The Minister of Culture of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Jesús Machín Tavío, points out that “April's program responds to a line of work that seeks to generate spaces for creation, learning, and dialogue, combining consolidated proposals with new perspectives.” In this sense, he highlights that the objective is “to continue offering an open agenda, that connects with different audiences and that allows approaching culture from multiple languages.”

Isolated Letters

El Almacén hosts a new edition of the literary gathering Letras Aisladas (Isolated Letters), coordinated by Mare Cabrera, which takes place from April 6 to 10 and once again focuses on literature made in the Canary Islands. The program brings together authors such as Jesús Giráldez, Daniel María, Elena Correa and Gonzalo Ortega, in a space for dialogue around writing, reading and contemporary thought.

The program includes book presentations, a round table on Spanish in Lanzarote and its relationship with literature, as well as two creative workshops, one on literary collage taught by Guacimara Hernández and another on writing led by Lana Corujo, consolidating this encounter as a key event with the word on the island.

Soil and air

The tenth edition of the Floor and Air Dance Showcase is held from April 13 to 18, transforming different spaces on the island into stages for contemporary creation, combining training, exhibition, and experimentation around movement. Workshops, scenic encounters, and choreographic pieces dialogue with the public from an open perspective that connects body, territory, and emotion.

The program brings together creators and companies such as Celeste Ayus, Paula Quintana, Ian Garside and Tomás Pozzi, along with proposals that explore new languages of dance and physical theater. To this are added training sessions and shared processes that extend the experience beyond the stage.

Lanzarote Early Music Festival

The Lanzarote Early Music Festival celebrates a new edition with two concerts in the Convent of Santo Domingo in Teguise on April 17 and 18, bringing historical repertoires to the public from a current perspective. The program combines interpretive sensitivity and musical rigor in a journey through different European traditions.

The festival will feature proposals such as Loving thought, with Isabel Álvarez, Sergey Saprychev and Carlos Oramas, and the guitar recital Dream, by Luis Alejandro García, which will emphasize the expressiveness and depth of the romantic repertoire.

Music

The rest of the month's musical program covers different traditions and styles, from island folklore to chamber music and contemporary sounds. On April 18, Yaiza hosts Grupo Esencia Atlante and Parranda Pa’l Porrón, two groups that keep Canarian popular music alive, while on April 25, the Teatro Víctor Fernández Gopar “El Salinero” welcomes Falla Ensemble with a repertoire that connects current creation with the musical heritage of Manuel de Falla.

The agenda is completed with proposals such as Tiburona within the Sonidos Líquidos cycle on April 26 in San Bartolomé, and the celebration of Music Week, from April 27 to 30, which turns different spaces on the island into meeting points for training, interpretation, and the collective enjoyment of music.

Cinema

The month's film program combines auteur cinema, animation, and documentary proposals in different spaces on the island. Within the framework of Suelo y aire, El Almacén hosts titles such as The Wave and The Dance of Lunja and her shadows, which dialogue with contemporary creation from a feminist and collective perspective.

The cycle is completed with screenings from Cine Club Lanzarote such as Vampires in Havana! and titles from Cine Buñuel such as The matter of the cosmos, in addition to proposals for young audiences such as Better Man within Cine Juventud Lanzarote, configuring a varied program open to different audiences.

Talks and conferences

El Almacén hosts on April 21 and 22 several proposals that address literature from different perspectives. On the one hand, a round table with Lana Corujo, Juli Mesa and Fabio Carreriro, moderated by Guacimara Hernández, reflects on the evolution of literary value and the construction of the poetics of love in the Western tradition.

Added to this is the conference by Sonia Betancort, which proposes a critical look at beauty and at the social and cultural transformations of the 21st century, analyzing its impact on contemporary literature and on the construction of new imaginaries.
