Folklore takes over the San Bartolomé Theater with the XVI Antigua Ajei Festival

The Municipal Theater of San Bartolomé hosted the XVI Antigua Ajei Festival on Saturday, October 21, which featured the participation of the Agrupación Folclórica La Peña as the host group and the Agrupación Folclórica Argones de Agüimes as the guest group.

Those in charge of opening the act were Argones, who offered a repertoire of good music, playing and dancing, with a mixture of traditional dances, making their entrance through the aisle of the stalls to the applause of the public.

The Agrupación La Peña delighted the public who came to the event with typical touches and dances from Lanzarote and more specifically from San Bartolomé. The group, which was founded in 2993 under the presidency of the late Marcial de León, has 33 members and a dance and playing body. They have a record on the market that they released in 2011, 'Recuerdos', and a great desire to continue on stage. They have participated in numerous island and regional festivals. "Over the years, the group has been nourished by young people interested in Canarian musical culture, which will surely guarantee its survival," they say from the City Council.

The Councilor for Culture, Alma González, presented details for the organization and its daily work to La Peña, and to the A.F. Argones as guests for their active collaboration in this festival, which has been on stage for sixteen years.
