El Charco de San Ginés hosted this Sunday, on the occasion of the patron saint festivities of the capital, the XXVIII San Ginés Folk Festival "A window to hope", organized by the City Council in collaboration with the Coros y Danzas de Arrecife Folk Group.
In some festivals declared of National Tourist Interest since 1965, the staging of our traditional songs and dances cannot be missed. The event began with the performance of the Sombras de Medianías Folk Group from the municipality of San Mateo in Gran Canaria, a group founded in 2017 as a result of the concerns of a group of friends who love Canarian traditions, who have made it possible for it to grow over the years thanks to the involvement of its thirty members who strive to keep the project alive.
Sombras de Medianías performed the most representative of Gran Canaria, such as Polca del Carrizal, Duque de cabras, Aires de lima de Tirajana and folías. Secondly, the Herederos de Chasna group from Tenerife took to the stage, a group created in 2014 and which since then has not stopped participating in festivals, pilgrimages or television programs, spreading Canarian folklore wherever it goes.
The Tenerifeños take care of the smallest detail in their dances and costumes, and for their performance they began with Tanganillo de Icod el Alto, Tango de la Florida, Polka de la Orotava and Isa de Tenerife. The third place was for the hosts, the Coros y Danzas Arrecife family, who have been taking the songs and dances of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands around the world for 64 years, with an extensive curriculum that they have been reaping throughout their career.
The Arrecife group has preserved the legacy received, and currently has made them worthy of many awards such as the "Ajei Recognition", "Volcán de Plata de Acatife", "Gold Medal of the Canary Islands", "Town Criers of the San Ginés Festivities 2012", among others. The purpose of Coros y Danzas Arrecife is to preserve and interpret the traditional couplets, songs and dances of Lanzarote, trying to preserve and interpret them without mystifications so that they do not lose their roots.
Coros y Danzas Arrecife chose the most traditional of Lanzarote for their performance, such as seguidillas, isas, folías, sorondongos and malagueñas, ending with an isa parrandera. The public, which filled the allowed capacity and which is becoming smaller and smaller for these events, supported the participating groups at all times with their applause.
The Councilor for Festivities in the Arrecife City Council, Encarna Páez, and the President of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, at the end of the festival shared with the participating groups and congratulated them for being "such good ambassadors of our Canarian land", with an impeccable staging where their songs, dances and costumes, authentic signs of identity, stood out.
