CIC El Almacén will host in Arrecife on Monday, April 3, starting at 6:30 p.m., the presentation of the book "Revoltosas, but are you crazy?", a publication edited by the Cabildo de Lanzarote that collects the history of this group of women from San Bartolomé who in the 1980s founded the first female murga in the Canary Islands.
"Las Revoltosas marked a before and after in the history of this island, revolutionizing the Carnival and bravely paving the way towards equality," highlights the president of the island corporation, María Dolores Corujo.
As explained by the Councilor of the Publications Service, Myriam Barros, the book that now sees the light "is the result of the exhibition that was held last year at La Casa Amarilla" and it is "a literary account focused mainly on how the beginnings of "Las Revoltosas" were, in an era where Carnival was a men's thing."
"Their initiative is an example of female empowerment." Therefore, "it deserves to be told and collected in a book, so that present and future generations know it," adds Barros.
"The publication also includes photographs of the trajectory and the different fantasies that the murga has had throughout its history." In addition, "the cover includes a part of artisan manufacturing made by the Revoltosas themselves, consisting of the introduction of a piece of fabric inside the cover." So that "each book is different."
Admission to the presentation will be free, until full capacity is reached.
