Twenty-Nine Thirteen Photography and Visual Arts Meeting

El Almacén hosts the seventh meeting of photography and visual arts Veintinueve Trece. The festival was inaugurated this Monday and will run until November 12. At the event, a tribute was paid to Santiago Alemán, "an indispensable figure in the cultural sphere of Lanzarote for his work as an illustrator, teacher, heritage conservator, and defender of the territory," according to the Cabildo.

The Councilor of the Culture Area of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Alberto Aguiar, expressed "the importance of Veintinueve Trece continuing to consolidate, turning Lanzarote into the international epicenter of photography thanks to a complete week of activities that use photography and audiovisual production as vehicles of expression." In addition, Aguilar emphasized "the scale that Veintinueve Trece has acquired, providing training solutions and highlighting the great work done within this field in Lanzarote."

During the inauguration, the director of Veintinueve Trece, Nicolás Melián, gave a tour of the three concepts around which the organization of this meeting of photography and visual arts revolves. "Memory, work, and commitment, is the definition of Veintinueve Trece, which has made us become a benchmark in the Canary cultural circuit today," he explained. Melián wanted to "thank the support of the institutions, especially the Cabildo of Lanzarote, which has supported and trusted this project from the first minute." The inauguration culminated with a theatrical performance by the Lanzarote actor Pedro Ayoze.

Home as a starting point

"The seventh edition of Veintinueve Trece has as its central axis to address the idea of home, understood as a physical space, but also psychological and emotional that acts as a reflection of the social and economic context in which a community lives," explain from the Cabildo. In this way, "it is intended to question the different forms that family relationships acquire and the continuous change of homes," they emphasize.

In this edition "it is intended to reflect on the architectural dimension, as in the affective, intimate or daily," they comment. To promote this work of active participation with society, "the meeting proposes joint reflection between the public and the speakers and artists on the near future as well as on their individual and collective experience through the experience of home," says the Cabildo.

The Veintinueve Trece photography and visual arts festival presents a wide program of workshops, conferences, talks and exhibitions. It is worth noting the presence of artists of international and national importance: Richard Billingham, Lua Ribeira, Juan Brenner, Estela de Castro, Nuria López Torres, Rebeka Arce, Albert Salas, Elías Taño, Yasmina Pérez, Marius Ionut, Studio Bruma, Saray Ossorio, Néstor Pérez Batista
