The autonomous Government will offer in Lanzarote the show 'Islazz', by Yul Ballesteros, within the framework of the Canary Islands Month program. The concert will be this Friday the 24th, at 8:30 p.m., at the Santo Domingo Convent in Teguise, with free admission for the public. That same day, at 11:00 a.m., another outstanding activity of this commemoration will also take place, the inauguration of the exhibition 'Traditional Clothing 8 Islands', at the Casa de los Volcanes of Jameos del Agua, by the Minister of Universities, Science and Innovation and Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands, Migdalia Machín. In this act there will also be a small acoustic musical performance by Alexis Lemes and Javier Infante.

These activities are in addition to the discussion offered last week in Arrecife, under the title 'Canarian folklore, cultural treasure for all ages', with the participation of experts from different islands; and the Regional Folklore Meeting that will be held on Friday, May 31, at 8:30 p.m., in the Plaza de los Dolores in Tinajo. With a traditional folk recital format, it will feature the participation of several groups, and an audiovisual projection on the role these groups play in the preservation of our heritage.

'Islazz', by Yul Ballesteros

'Islazz' is a unique show that merges traditional melodies and avant-garde. In this case, Yul Ballesteros presents the third installment of the project, in which he appears before the public with an ensemble that merges the big band format with a string group. A project that the Canarian guitarist presents under the title 'Traditional Tales', accompanied on stage by some of the best modern music musicians on the islands, with extensive experience and recognition.

Yul Ballesteros recalls that Islazz was born as a tribute to each of the small continents that make up the Canary Islands, to their smells, their flavors, their landscapes and their people. It is, in turn, a cultural innovation project, in which, with the help of different research processes, it is intended to create an image of the Canary Islands based on some of the most relevant aspects of its idiosyncrasy.

'Traditional Tales' includes the songs 'Tanganillo', 'Tenerife', 'Tinequezz', 'Mantra de la tierra', 'La Gomera', 'Baile del bebop', 'Fuerteventura', 'Folías de Tiempo', 'Arroró', 'Lanzarote', 'Gran Canaria', 'Malagueña influenciada' and 'Polcazz'.

Traditional clothing exhibition in Lanzarote, with music

On the other hand, the exhibition of 'Traditional Clothing 8 Islands' can be visited at the Casa de los Volcanes (Jameos del Agua), in Lanzarote, from May 24 to May 30.

It is made up of traditional costumes from the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, both for men and women, that is, a couple from each island, as well as the most representative accessories regarding shoes and hats. They are based on plates, manuscripts, and texts by Alfred Diston and Pereira Pacheco.

These are garments used by the ancient inhabitants of the Canary Islands in different historical periods, mostly made with local productions of wool, linen and silk, or imported. Curated by experts Dulce Rodríguez de la Rosa and Carlos González García, the exhibition includes a wide variety of outfits little known until now, or difficult to associate with the islands to which they are attributed. There are daily, Sunday or party outfits.
