César Manrique continues to inspire the short stories of the Radio Lanzarote contest

César Manrique continues to inspire the short stories of the Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero contest, which has continued to receive stories in recent days. The deadline to participate in the contest, which in its ninth edition wanted to join the acts of the centenary of the artist's birth, will end on August 31.

As in previous editions, the maximum length of the stories must be 100 words, including the title if it has one. However, this time, the stories must star César Manrique, some of his works such as the tourist centers of Jameos del Agua or the Montañas del Fuego or some of the houses he lived in.

All those who wish to participate can send their stories to the email: concursorelatos@lanzarotemedia.net. Each author may send a maximum of five stories, which may be signed with a pseudonym, although they must always indicate a name and a contact telephone number. The stories will be published in order of receipt in La Voz de Lanzarote and will be read in the 'Reading on the Radio' space of Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.

The decision of the contest, organized in collaboration with the César Manrique Foundation, will be made public in the second half of September. As for the prizes, the winner will receive a television valued at around 300 euros, a pack of products from the centenary of Manrique and a pack of books published by the Foundation. The second prize will be a tablet valued at around 200 euros, a pack of centenary products and a pack of books published by the FCM; and the third winner will receive wireless headphones valued at around 100 euros, as well as a pack of centenary products and a pack of books.

Albino

In that mysterious, almost circular hole, I live with more companions. Little vision, but spectacular hearing.

I am unique in the world, my whiteness and size are worthy of highlighting. I don't need to travel. In Lanzarote I am happy together with those of my species.

Visitor, don't throw coins! They are deadly to us. Silence your steps and enjoy the scenery that nature and César give us.

I feel the breath of those who delight in our incomparable habitat. Theater without end.

When the lady of the night awakens, peace settles in my home. It's time to rest.

Colorful Hands

The blind crabs come out in procession from Jameos del Agua, to witness the wonder that will happen.

The farmers are harvesting and César helps the women with the baskets and the men to collect the grapes. The onions are distributed in sacks, which our friend Manrique sews with care, until a strong wind shakes everything and the Devil of Timanfaya appears in the sky, riding on the trade winds with his enormous trident. César begins to laugh out loud looking at the sky and thousands of colors begin to come out of his hands.

Hope

The earth in its purest nakedness stirs before you and whispers a wish to you and you, like an orchestra director, molded the sand, "fabricating" the Cueva de los Verdes and painted a sun, which witnesses the Monument to the Peasant... you painted our life... on a giant canvas, called Lanzarote.

I'm waiting for you to see me, to listen to me. Where are you César? I'm staying here, waiting for you.

Time is running out, and they don't realize it, do you hear it? Your shadow approaches my side and whispers a whole life to me... and I opened my eyes and painted a whole island for you.

The dream at the foot of a Jameo

Braima, had left for his dream two days ago accompanied by an enraged sea.

He managed to reach the coast guided by the remains of a previous landing in the area of Los Bonancibles next to Los Jameos del Agua that his friend Mario had set on fire, a little before 04:00 Am

In that tiny boat of just five meters and together with other people whose names he didn't even know, they all shared the same illusion, the dream of reaching the freedom to decide for themselves about their own lives.

Art

White shirt and linen pants. Privileged mind sheltering his imagination. Oasis surrendered to the bluish river with touches of petrified lava.

Contemporary of the future plays with Fire, Air, Earth and Water. Equalized in the most beautiful creation.

Explosion of balance giving luminosity. Animated brushes succumbing to the infinite Cosmos.

Close to the sea dancing with aquatic challenges and delights of wind. He is moved by the passion of heat in earthly cracks.

Lanzarote is adorned with his footprint. It gives off harmony for the visitor and firmness for the inhabitants.

César, citizen of the world. Art is breathed in his constant revolution.

Questions and answers

The radio announcer dialed a random phone number as he did every morning ready to interrogate the listener and give him a bag loaded with prizes from local businessmen. After two failed attempts, someone on the other side finally picked up the tube and answered. A battery of questions began to fire into the air. Red, black and white. Humility. Simplicity. Native resources. Merge with the landscape. Elegance. Be different. So much construction will end the charm of our island. No thanks, I don't want that bag loaded with interests alien to my land. I don't...

From the huge window of his room he saw a parade of vehicles destined for the construction of houses and hotels. The pristine white of the walls of his home was impregnated with the black dust of so much picón scattered throughout the island. The businessman replaced the farmer and the humble fisherman on the front pages of the newspapers. The accumulated garbage covered his paradisiacal views. Alone, sunk in the deepest sadness and defeated by his own neighbors, he turned on the radio to be able to listen to the waves of the sea from a musical curtain.

Forever César

I walk among the rubble of an unfinished work until I finally access a road covered with advertising on both sides. I end up in a set of houses of diverse materials that have nothing to do with the physiognomy of the place I once knew. The neon lights, already at night, do not let me see the sky full of stars that one day made me fall in love. Tired, I decide to take a break and turn on the radio on my mobile. On the island where he was born a hundred years ago, they pay tribute to him. Man understands nothing. And he never learns.

Revolution

The tiny crabs, despite their blindness, revolted and escaped through the enigmatic Tunnel of Atlantis, taking advantage of the break in the work they were performing in the unrepeatable and unique Auditorium.

They managed to reach the Cueva de los Verdes, where they hid with the help of Jesús Soto, to avoid the attacks of the environmental pirates, in a puddle that appeared to be deeper, what a scare!

Between lights and shadows César arrived, to meet with the crabs who transmitted their fears for the future, the pirates were lurking!

César revolutionized the island in its defense.

I arrived on the island attracted by the shape that a certain César Manrique gave it, despite the comments that emanated in torrents from that radio program that assured that everything was false. Fourteen thousand kilometers to get lost among the rofe and the volcanoes. To discover Jameos, the Cactus Garden. To appreciate life from the Mirador del Río and this land dyed black, white and red. Simple. Genuine...but that voice turned out to be true...nothing of him was here. Only hotel offer and constructions everywhere. Were you just a dream César Manrique or were you ever reality?
