CEIP Capellanía del Yágabo, from Lanzarote, wins the First Primary School Prize in the tenth edition of Cinedfest

Once again, the Multicines Tenerife, in La Laguna, have become a meeting point for the young filmmakers of the Archipelago, who this morning attended the Final Gala for Children and Primary School of the tenth edition of the Educational Film Festival, Cinedfest, in which the short film "Dystopia", made by the 6th grade group of the CEIP Capellanía del Yágabo, from Lanzarote, won.

The ceremony, which brought together more than 500 people, including students and teachers who attended the event representing all the finalist centers, was presented by the journalist Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, and was full of surprises, multiple expressions of joy and emotional moments.

"We have been watching the gala from school for many years and this time it was our turn," commented one of the students participating in the winning short, after receiving the
award from the island director of Education and Youth of the Cabildo de Tenerife, María Isabel Bello. 

To which another of her classmates added: "through this short film we want to vindicate diversity in all areas of life, to end her speech with the unanimous cry of Long live the difference, by all the students present on stage."

The second place went to "The Forbidden Zone", by the 2nd grade students of CEIP Las Mercedes, from La Laguna, which was announced through a video by the director of the DISA Foundation, Sara Mateos Artiles, projected on the screens of the Multicines Tenerife cinemas.

On the other hand, the jury awarded the trophy for the best Infant and Primary school to CEIP El Roque, from Los Llanos de Aridane (La Palma), which won three other awards such as the award for best comedy, for "The Mystery of the Museum" and the awards for best photography and best sound, for "The List".

Meanwhile, the best horror short film was won by CEIP Agache (Güímar), for "Forever with Mom", the award was presented by the director of Multicines Tenerife, Fran Marichal López.

The award for best Primary School direction was shared by Azael Meza Benítez, from CEIP Gesta 25 de Julio (Santa Cruz de Tenerife), for "El Patio", and Ivan Suárez Rodríguez, from CEIP Agustín Hernández Díaz (Moya).

Lucas Expósito Placeres, Antonio Adrián Afonso León and Jesús Eduardo Sanz Correa, from CEIP San Bernardo (Los Silos), received the award for best screenplay for "My Great" and, in the interpretation category, Berenice Leia Álvarez Delgado was distinguished as best actress, for her role in "Once upon a time...", from CEIP Príncipe de Asturias (Telde), and Fabián Melián Yusef as best actor, for "Dystopia", from CEIP Capellanía del Yágabo (Arrecife).

The rest of the honor roll was made up of CEO Guajara (Fasnia), with the short film "Old Tennis Shoes", which has been awarded the DISA Foundation trophy, which distinguishes the works that best reflect the values of effort, respect and solidarity, and the distribution award, so that for a year it will travel through many festivals, and CEIP Giner de Los Ríos (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria), which won the Social Values Award from the La Caixa Foundation, "The Great Draw".

The Primary School awards were completed with the award for best documentary, which went to "The rural school: the beating of a town", from the Infant and Primary group of the CER of Santa Brígida-San Mateo, which shows the daily reality and the history of the rural school collective, and the non-Spanish speaking award, for "Queen Elizabeth" and "Last Goodbye", from CEIP Camino de la Villa (La Laguna).

Emilio Ramal Soriano, film and video curator of Tenerife Espacio de las Artes (TEA), presented CEIP La Verdellada (La Laguna) with the award for the Primary School short film most valued by the public of the Canary Islands for "The Invisible Treasure". Finally, the filmmaker Josep Vilageliu, presented the trophy to the winning short film of the popular vote of the Península Section, which corresponded to "Desperta", from CEIP O Vicedo (Lugo), to a representation of students from the school who traveled from Galician lands to be present at the gala.

As for the Children's category, the maximum award was received by the 4-year-old Children's students of CEIP Parque La Reina (Arona), for their musical proposal with an ecological message entitled "Arráyate un millo", while the 3-year-old Children's group of CEIP Fernando III El Santo (La Laguna) won the second prize for "Without a trace".

This Wednesday, June 21, the Final Gala of Secondary, Baccalaureate, FP-CEPA-EOI-EASD will be held on the same stage, where, among others, the Cinedfest Grand Prize of this year will be revealed. In addition, the event will be broadcast live through the Cinedfest YouTube Channel, starting at 10:00 am.

Great participation
The tenth edition of Cinedfest has stood out for its great participation, with a total of 373 educational centers registered throughout Spain, which have presented 560 short films.

With regard to the Archipelago as a whole, 231 educational centers have participated this year, presenting a total of 414 short films in all the categories in competition and 606 teachers from centers throughout the Canary Islands have been involved in this project that promotes cinema in the classroom as an educational tool.
