Carlos Matallana presents his 'Conjunctions' at the CIC El Almacén

The El Almacén Cultural Innovation Center will host a new exhibition starting this Friday, July 27. This is 'Conjunctions', by the Lanzarote artist based in Tenerife, Carlos Matallana, an exhibition in which the artist from Lanzarote brings together his latest production and which will occupy the two exhibition halls of the cultural center that depends on the Cabildo of Lanzarote: the El Patio Room and the El Aljibe Room.

In the presentation to the media held this Thursday, the artist explained that the exhibition is divided into five series or themes, among which are, of course, 'Lanzarote Notebooks', but also the landscapes grouped under the name of 'Geophanies', the self-portraits in 'Petits Pharces', the hands in 'Being in your hand' and the series of large-format paintings in 'Double or Nothing'.

Matallana also expressed his satisfaction at returning to El Almacén. "It can be said that I started my professional career in this cultural center. I must thank the Cabildo of Lanzarote, and in particular the Culture area, for having counted on me again to exhibit in these rooms. I am very satisfied to be part of this new stage of El Almacén, now that there seems to be a cultural explosion on the island with a large number of young creators of a very high quality," concluded the painter.

For his part, the Minister of Culture of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Óscar Pérez, invited all citizens to come and see 'Conjunctions'. "This is an excellent exhibition by an artist from Lanzarote who has not exhibited on the island for many years, and we are very proud that he has accepted our invitation and how the assembly in El Almacén has turned out. We hope that everyone will come to see it and enjoy it very much," said Pérez.

'Conjunctions' will open this Friday, July 27 at 8:30 p.m. Admission is free. The exhibition will remain open until September 22.

Presentation of the book 'Lanzarote Notebooks'

'Conjunctions' contains a large part of the works that Matallana exhibited in 'Shots in the Air', an exhibition that could be seen in La Regenta, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, but also shows new works by this multidisciplinary and polyhedral artist, as is the case of 'Lanzarote Notebooks', an audiovisual installation that can be seen in the El Aljibe room and that collects drawings of landscapes of the island of Lanzarote that the author has been making for more than 25 years.

With music by Jorge Toledo and a selection of 80 drawings from the more than 600 made, 'Lanzarote Notebooks' is also the germ of an artist's book that was presented this Thursday, at 7:30 p.m., at the CIC El Almacén, with the presence of Carlos Matallana himself and the historian and critic Ramiro Carrillo. Admission is free.

Carrillo is also the author of the texts that accompany the exhibition catalog and, among other things, states that Matallana's painting has the "capacity (?) to build the labyrinth of mirrors, of false truths and true lies with which he makes paintings whose 'realism', in the end, resides in being the painting of a photograph of the sculpture of a cultural myth. His work is the image of an image of an image".
