Arrecife joins the movement "Street Arts for social transformation"

In this new post-Covid-19 normality, the manifesto wants to highlight the value of the arts as an engine for social transformation, and to reclaim the street as a space for dialogue, expression and coexistence.

This Friday, the manifesto "Street Arts for Social Transformation" was officially presented in different cities of the state (Madrid, Burgos, Castellón, Aracena, Arrecife, Barcelona, Gerona, Lérida, Palma de Mallorca, Sineu, Tarragona, Zaragoza, Valencia and Cádiz) and in European cities such as Ljubljana, Lille, Sassari, Montpellier, Toulouse, Vilnius, Vienna and even in India and Mozambique, in total 24 cities.

In Arrecife, the manifesto was presented in the Plaza de la Constitución with the participation of 9 street artists from the island. The manifesto calls on artists, institutions and citizens to take to the streets to make visible and give value to the arts as an engine for change and social transformation.

Manifesto:

"We know, and the WHO supports it, that art is one of the most effective ways to improve the emotional state of society. It helps to find ways to relate to loneliness, anxiety and fear, among others," says Sergi Estebanell, a member of the Money For Free collective and one of the promoters of the manifesto. Street artists want to emphasize the importance of street art in the construction of this new post-Covid-19 normality.

Any context is good for artistic creation but, at this time, they want to give special importance to the streets of the cities. The streets are the social space par excellence, where people interact with diversity, spontaneity and collective rituals. It is the space for dialogue, expression and coexistence. Josep Cosials, a member of Money For Free, reminds us that the streets are the space where most social changes and movements have been born.

Although artists are going through a very difficult time and there are many demands to be made, today we want to be positive and proactive by offering our art to the public and encouraging cultural agents to have us more present to co-create the cultural future of our country.

We believe that art is now more necessary than ever and that is why we also want to encourage citizens to express themselves: painting, singing, reciting, dancing, writing freely in our streets. So that the new normality is a new beginning for the society we want".

The manifesto "Street Arts for Social Transformation" already has the support of more than 900 adhesions of street arts artists, professional associations, festivals and cultural managers such as PATEA, PAC, TTP, APCC, APdC, APGCC, AADPC, Fundación Carulla, among others, and renowned artists such as Comediants, Fura dels Baus, Pepe Viyuela, Tortell Poltrona, Claire Ducreux and Leo Bassi, among others.

After reading the manifesto, some artists have made artistic interventions in the public space, in contact with the people passing by who probably did not expect to meet again with surprise, spontaneity and emotions in the street. Of course, with masks and the established security measures.

The manifesto is promoted by the collective Money for free, Sergi Estebanell, Josep Cosials, Octavi Royo, Nina Costas.
