The residents of the Altavista neighborhood celebrated the Eucharist in honor of their patron saint, San Antonio María Claret. It took place last Saturday, October 25, at 6:00 p.m. It was presided over by the titular parish priest, Nicanor Bermúdez, and the songs for the celebration were directed by Professor Josefina González, who enlivened them with the chords of her piano, to which the voices of the parishioners also joined.
After the Eucharist, the image of San Antonio María Claret went out in procession through the main streets of the neighborhood, accompanied by the parish priest and the neighbors. In addition, they had the collaboration of the Local Police and Civil Protection of Arrecife, in charge of regulating traffic as the image passed, thus avoiding possible accidents.
The First Deputy Mayor, Councilor for Festivities and Police of the Arrecife City Council, Alfredo Mendoza, also came to the Altavista church on such a special day, to share the Patron Saint's festivity with the neighbors.
Once the procession was over, the neighbors prepared some tables in the patio of the parish complex, in order to share chocolate and homemade artisan sweets. In this way, the festivities in honor of the Patron Saint San Antonio María Claret came to an end, becoming the first Saint to go out in procession after the Covid 19 pandemic was declared on March 13, 2020.
