The Third Section of the Malaga Court restarted this Wednesday the sessions of the Astapa case trial on the alleged political and urban corruption in the Malaga town of Estepona. There are 51 defendants including former councilors, businessmen and municipal employees.
Among them, the owner of the BlueBay Lanzarote hotel in Costa Teguise, Jamal Satli Iglesias, who is accused of bribery in relation to compensation for the granting of urban planning licenses from the Estepona City Council. Satli already testified last March.
Specifically, he is accused of an alleged crime of active bribery and a year of prison and 6,000 euros are requested, as reported by the Prosecutor's Office to La Voz de Lanzarote.
We will have to wait until the end of May 2024 for the expert opinions of the prosecutor and the parties involved in the procedure, so until at least June of that same year, the final conclusions cannot be drawn.
The crime of active bribery involves giving a gift or remuneration of any other kind to an authority, public official or person who participates in the exercise of public function, in exchange for any of these doing something in their favor or in gratitude for something they have already done.
The BlueBay hotel group, which Satli manages, in addition to the hotel located in Lanzarote, has another 61 hotels in 16 countries.
