The Civil Guard has arrested the alleged driver who fled after running over a 45-year-old man on the LZ-20 road in Tiagua, who later died. According to reports from the press office, the Civil Guard was alerted this Saturday to a person being run over. Once at the scene, the agents, together with the local police, were able to gather information thanks to the "important citizen collaboration that provided the agents with the data of the offending vehicle and a series of indications to identify its driver". It was also learned "that the deceased had just gotten out of his vehicle after parking it on the passable part of the shoulder", and at that moment he was "run over by a vehicle that fled immediately".
Moments later, the Local Police of Tinajo located the driver and the vehicle allegedly involved in the hit-and-run, at his home in the town of La Santa. Different units of the GIR (rapid intervention group) and the Arrecife Traffic Detachment traveled to this town, who arrested the alleged perpetrator of the event for two crimes; one against road safety (giving more than 0.60 milligrams of alcohol per liter of exhaled air and positive in the drug test for drug use) and another for reckless homicide. It so happens that the detainee is related to the assault on two Civil Guard agents in July 2017 in La Santa.
The detainee will be brought to judicial disposition of the corresponding Court in charge of Arrecife as soon as the appropriate police procedures are completed and within a maximum period of 72 hours.
