The Cabildo of Lanzarote has authorized the New Society of Hunters of Lanzarote to open a falconry bird training camp in the training field of Las Caletas (Teguise). It has been made effective after its publication in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) on March 7.
The Councilor of Hunting of the Cabildo, Andrés Stinga, responded to the request of this group to open a training camp for birds dedicated to hunting. The highest island body estimates that this type of field "has obvious advantages" in the preparation of birds and prevents them from being locked up "for the shortest possible time, avoiding stress due to inactivity".
Before giving the green light to this training space, the file was confirmed by the Environment and Heritage Area of the island institution.
The perimeter of the field must be well signposted on all paths, roads, tracks or highways. At the time of its opening, it must present a sign with the shield of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the name "training field". In addition, it must meet different requirements depending on the time of year.
Between March 5 and April 30, one bird per hunting license may be carried, no piece may be captured and those that are captured in an "inevitable" way will be delivered to a charity and it will not be possible to train in a squad. In addition, training will be allowed on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from sunrise to sunset.
This training field will only allow the entry of effective residents in Lanzarote, that is, with a registration of more than two years.
From May 7 until the opening of the hunting season, one bird and one pointing dog per license may be carried, it will still not be possible to capture any piece or train in a squad. In addition, the same training days will be maintained.
At all times, the opening of the fields will follow the instructions of the environmental agents, agents of the Seprona of the Civil Guard and Hunting Guards.
At the same time, falconry birds must be identified and care must be taken to not cause damage to agricultural farms adjacent to the fields. They will also not be able to hunt outside the perimeter of these, considering it as an infraction.
In addition, respect must be given to the use that is developed in the training fields, terraces and stone walls. As well as elements of ethnographic and archaeological interest.
Any infraction of the rules set forth in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands may result in the suspension of the authorization.
