The Spanish Tourism Institute (Turespaña), through its Tourism Office in Tokyo (Japan), has organized a familiarization trip, from July 11 to 21, for Japanese travel agents to Lanzarote, in collaboration with Lanzarote Biosphere Reserve and Promotur Turismo de Canarias. It will also include trips to other islands, such as La Palma and Tenerife.
This "famtrip" will include, in addition to visits to the main urban and natural tourist attractions of the three islands, showcooking and tastings of local wines and in-depth knowledge of the extraordinary hotel offer, including especially Paradores Nacionales in the Japanese demand, of Canarian restoration and transport.
According to the market study carried out by the Tourism Office in Tokyo "Concept making and promotion strategy for the Canary Islands in the Japanese market", the attractions of the Canary Islands are perfectly adapted to the general taste of Japanese tourists: historical and cultural heritage, nature, and gastronomy and enology.
The study highlights, for example, that the Fuji san volcano, the highest Japanese peak, coincides with Teide in height and shape, which is why it is a common attraction. But in addition, the Canary Islands provide other landscapes and experiences very different from those of their country for Japanese tourists, with Canarian resort tourism being considered especially attractive.
Five relevant travel agencies will participate on the Japanese side in relation to the Destination Spain, both of a general nature and of a specialized scope. It should be noted that the Japanese market is definitively normalizing with the gradual lifting of the restrictions applied by Covid. Japanese tourists can now return to Japan without quarantine, and Japanese travel agencies can now freely market tourism products with Spain.
