Three municipalities of Lanzarote are among the top ten tourist destinations in the Canary Islands and among the top 50 in the country. This is revealed by the data from the Atlas of municipal contribution of tourism in Spain by Exceltur on tourism activity in 2022.
The first conejera locality to appear in the ranking is Tías, occupying the fifth place in the Canary Islands and reaching 38,694 tourist places. In addition, the municipality of Tías occupies the number 17 position in the table of Spanish municipalities with the greatest relevance in the third sector.
This atlas, which aims to take a photograph of the tourism situation in the different municipalities of the country, also shows the volume of tourists compared to the resident population. In the case of Tías, travelers represent 65% of the total, but it is not reflected in jobs: in 2022 it only generated 5,871 jobs. That is, one contract for every ten tourists. This reality is similar to that suffered in the Mallorcan city of Alcudia, where with more than 41,000 tourist places, just over 5,300 jobs are created.
By distribution, three out of ten places dedicated to tourists in the town come from hotel accommodation. However, the greatest weight is marked by apartments, campsites and rural tourism, reaching 42.7%. Meanwhile, holiday homes offered on platforms reach two out of ten tourist accommodations.
The second to appear in the classification is Yaiza, the 22nd Spanish locality with the largest offer for tourists and the seventh in the Archipelago. In the case of the southern town, five out of ten tourist places are located in hotels, while apartments barely exceed 15.1%. In this case, holiday homes account for 31.5%.
In Yaiza, the presence of tourism is reflected in the 33,638 places offered, but also in the fact that it represents 62.2% of the population, according to the aforementioned Exceltur Atlas.
In the ninth position is Teguise. In this case, it has 24,073 tourist accommodation places on the market. In its case, the majority are distributed between hotels and tourist apartments, with 37.3% and 35.9% respectively.
The incidence of holiday homes exposed on digital platforms covers 26.8% of the tourist town's offer. In the case of the percentage of tourism presence in Teguise, this Atlas rates it at 47%.
