So far this year, 2.2 million foreign tourists have arrived in Lanzarote through the César Manrique airport. The first place is unmistakably British, since the nationals of the United Kingdom (1.3 million) account for 57.15% of the total, according to figures provided by the Lanzarote Data Center.
However, the second place, historically occupied by German tourists, will be, almost certainly, for Irish tourism at the end of 2023. Until the end of October, 276,414 people had already arrived from Ireland, while 200,946 passengers arrived from German airports.
The data for November and December generally shorten the distance on the part of German tourism, which does not come as much in summer, compared to Irish tourism, but this year it will not be enough. Last year at the end of October, Irish tourism only exceeded German tourism by just over 10,000 travelers.
That is why Ireland was about to take second place, although it finally did not succeed. There were 260,346 Irish tourists compared to 263,911 German tourists.
Despite the fact that the population of Ireland, 4.7 million inhabitants, does not even reach 6% of the 80 million that Germany has, it is a market that has historically been very linked to Lanzarote and that has not stopped growing despite the latest crises, which, on the other hand, have stopped many Germans from traveling.
The economic growth in Ireland in recent years, much higher than that of Germany in terms of GDP per capita, has allowed the Irish to maintain travel on their agenda of priorities.
