The Cabildo of Lanzarote signs an agreement to promote the Smart Tourist Destination model

The Cabildo of Lanzarote and the company SEGITTUR have signed an agreement this Tuesday to promote the Smart Tourist Destination model on the island, through coordinated strategies that are related to technology.

The agreement was formalized in an act held in the Islote de Fermina, in the presence of the president María Dolores Corujo, the CEO of SPEL and Tourism Lanzarote, Héctor Fernández, and the president of SEGITTUR, Enrique Martínez Marín.

"It is an honor for us to be the first Cabildo to sign this collaboration, which aims to position us as an innovative destination, with advanced technological infrastructures, accessible and that guarantees the sustainable development of the island", the president has underlined.

The protocol has been agreed within the Working Group of Provincial Councils, Island Councils and Island Consells of the Network of Smart Tourist Destinations of Spain (DTI), created to promote coordinated actions and services that improve the tourist development of destinations aligned with this model, taking into account the specificity of these supramunicipal institutions.

The Secretary of State for Tourism, through SEGITTUR, launched the Smart Tourist Destinations program to contribute to the improvement of the competitiveness of Spanish destinations from the perspective of sustainability and accessibility through new governance models that include innovation and technology as tools for this.

Within the framework of this project, it should be noted that the DTI Network was established with the mission of promoting public-public and public-private collaboration, to place destinations at the center of attention of public policies in tourism matters, favoring the improvement of their competitiveness, promoting synergies and facilitating the necessary transfer of knowledge and the development of products, services and actions.
