The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, has been since this Thursday one of the members of the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands (AMTC). Along with him, the mayors of La Oliva, San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Puerto de La Cruz will also be members.
During the first assembly of the ATMC with representatives of the 13 Canary municipalities that are members of the Association, the mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz Saavedra, also participated.
In the act, the president of the AMTC and mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, defended the role of these destinations "in the governance of the sector".
He also assured that "the organization is now facing a four-year mandate during which the voice of the municipalities in the governance of tourism will continue to be strengthened, respecting the singularities of each destination."
The president and host mayor detailed that the AMTC is working to address the new challenges and the new scenarios facing tourism and referred to issues as important as access to housing, the definition of a tourist municipality or the implementation of the decree for beach safety, approved by the Government of the Canary Islands.
For her part, the vice president of the AMTC and mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, detailed the projects that are being developed from the Association. She emphasized the project 'Decarbonization of the destination. Canary Green', which is endowed with eight million euros from the Next Generation Funds.
"This initiative is aimed at the decarbonization of the destination, with lines of work as important as sustainable mobility, renewable energy consumption and the digitalization of the destination," said Onalia Bueno, who also stressed the importance of the AMTC having been one of the candidates chosen by the Secretary of State for Tourism "to carry out this pilot experience that will be fundamental for the main economic sector of the Archipelago".
New Board of Directors of the AMTC
One of the points on the agenda of the assembly was the constitution of the new Board of Directors after the municipal elections last May.
The mayor of Adeje, José Manuel Rodríguez Fraga, maintains the position of president of the AMTC and the mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, that of vice president.
From this Thursday, the mayor of Santiago del Teide, Emilio Navarro, occupies the position of secretary, while the positions of member will be occupied by the mayors of La Oliva, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Puerto de La Cruz and Yaiza, Isaí Blanco, Marco Aurelio Pérez, Marco González and Óscar Manuel Noda, respectively, ensuring the representativeness of all the islands that have tourist municipalities.
