A few days before the World Travel Market in London, Lanzarote held a meeting with British Airways at the airline's headquarters, which culminated in the signing of a collaboration protocol aimed at "strengthening the connection with the United Kingdom and moving towards a tourism model of higher quality and profitability."
Currently, only eight of the 206 flights connecting the United Kingdom and Lanzarote are British Airways flights, and all depart from London's Gatwick Airport.
The meeting, promoted by the Cabildo de Lanzarote through SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, marks a decisive step that seeks to identify formulas to incentivize demand that will impact the increase of the current weekly connectivity with the company, while also consolidating the promotion of the island in the British airline's channels.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and Minister of Tourism, Oswaldo Betancort, stated that these types of meetings "anticipate a new phase for Lanzarote, where we are not so much looking to grow in volume as in quality, promoting a tourism that respects and consumes the island, generating a real return for the families of Lanzarote and La Graciosa."
For his part, the CEO of SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, Héctor Fernández, pointed out that "the signing of this protocol with British Airways reinforces our commitment to a visitor who values sustainability and excellence. We want to grow in connectivity, but also in added value and profitability for the destination."
British Airways' Director of Planning and Strategy, Neil Chernoff, highlighted that "Lanzarote is a strategic destination within our network. This protocol will allow us to develop joint promotional actions and improve the experience of our clients, who are looking for exclusive destinations with a high level of service."
This Tuesday marks the start of WTM, with an agenda of key meetings to continue closing agreements in line with SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, aimed at consolidating a sustainable, differentiated, and high-value tourism model.
