On behalf of the Yaiza City Council, the mayor, Óscar Noda, and the Councilor for Tourism, Daniel Medina, presented this Wednesday to Marina Rubicón, represented by its CEO, Rafael Lasso Lorenzo, the Yaiza Tourism Award 2024 for “its trajectory and excellence in the provision of nautical services and unquestionable contribution to the positioning of Playa Blanca as a sports destination for Olympic and world sailing classes”, as reflected by the municipal president in the warm event held in the captaincy square of the southern marina.

Óscar Noda pointed out that “elite sailors from more than thirty nationalities settle every winter in Playa Blanca, causing a positive impact on the economy of Yaiza, Lanzarote and the Canary Islands. We are talking about a direct annual economic impact in Lanzarote and the Canary Islands estimated at 16.5 million euros”.

The Councilor for Tourism of Yaiza, Daniel Medina, elaborated on the mayor's reference, valuing “Marina Rubicón's commitment to quality and tourist excellence. It is a reference marina in the Canary Islands and an object of admiration and desire for the world of sailing sports. The port is already a high-performance sailing center worldwide”.

Rafael Lasso expressed his personal gratitude, that of the property and that of his entire work team to whom he made participants in the award: “it is a boost and recognition of the work we have been developing in twenty years of operation, always trying to improve the quality line of the services we offer to sailors. This recognition is a great satisfaction and gives us impetus to continue our work”.

The elite of the sport values the great advantages of Marina Rubicón and Playa Blanca for their preparation for high competition, among them, the different ranges of regatta fields offered by the coast of southern Lanzarote, and the municipality values the benefit of having a training center with top-level fleets in the first tourist center of Lanzarote. It is the same athletes and national, European, American and Asian teams who decide where to train and where it is best for them to compete, so there is no better reference than their choice for Playa Blanca, a window of international promotion.

Óscar Noda also highlighted "the collaboration provided by Marina Rubicón to the native sport of Latin sailing", specifically, to the celebration of the Southern Cup organized by the City Council and concluded by praising the women and men working in the tourism sector in general: “people, the human resource and talent, is and has been the determining factor in the tourist development of our municipality, so my most sincere congratulations to all the workers in the sector, and I accompany these words with my deep feeling of admiration for those who are active and those who have already retired”. The Yaiza gala put its final touch with the performances of the duo Vicky and Rayco, voice and timple, respectively, and to close, the music of Expecta Band.
