Lanzarote's hotels accommodated a total of 163,457 travelers last month, 1,081 fewer tourists than they welcomed in May of last year, according to data from the Lanzarote data center with figures from the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC).
In fact, occupancy decreased by more than two points compared to last year. While in May 2023 it reached 78.5%, this year it has remained at 76.32%.
Despite this, the island's hotels obtained 48.2 million euros in revenue in May, almost 3 million euros more than in May 2023.
The growth is due, on the one hand, to the increase in rates, which this May have averaged 111 euros per night, when last year it remained at 101 euros.
Stays were also longer since, with fewer travelers, one million overnight stays were exceeded this year, while in May of last year it remained at 950,000.
Regarding employment, Lanzarote's hotels closed May with 9,608 employees, almost 400 less than those counted in the first quarter of the year, but almost 1,000 more than there were in May of last year.
