Canarias once again broke its all-time record for foreign tourists in 2025 for the second consecutive year, receiving 15.69 million visitors from other countries, 3.0% more than in 2024, according to the Statistics of Tourist Movements at Borders (Frontur) published this Tuesday.
This annual increase was achieved despite the fact that in the month of December, not only did the number of visitors traveling to the islands on vacation not increase, but it slightly decreased, by 0.1%, remaining at 1,447,097, according to the National Statistics Institute.
Canarias thus adds 29 consecutive months above one million monthly visitors. To find a month below that threshold, one must go back to June 2023, with 947,828 foreign tourists.
In December, the main countries of origin for tourists to the archipelago were the United Kingdom, from where 483,580 arrived, and Germany, with 264,322. Ireland (76,625) and Netherlands (75,779) also contributed considerable figures (73,477).
To a greater extent than international travelers, the spending by them in Canarias increased in 2025, exceeding the turnover of 2024 by 6.8%, reaching an amount of 24,431 million euros.
The latest Survey of Foreign Tourist Expenditure (Egatur) reveals that, on the contrary, in the month of December, the total spending of foreign tourists decreased compared to a year ago, remaining at 2,228 million euros, 0.6% less.
The average spending of each one was 1,539 euros, 0.5% less, although the daily spending per person increased by 0.5%, reaching 190 euros, while the average stay of each visitor also decreased by 0.9%, remaining at 8.1 nights.
