Tourist packages to Canarias: up to 9% more expensive due to the war in the Middle East

Excelcan warns of a price increase to the islands from June, weak demand and, above all, the lack of labor due to the shortage and price of housing

The most favorable scenario regarding the impact of the war in the Middle East on the economic engine of the Canary Islands, its tourism sector, is that this conflict could increase between 7.5% and 9%, and from next June, vacation packages to the islands.

This is the estimate of the business alliance Excelcan, which brings together the main tourism companies in the Canary Islands, as stated by its spokespersons this Tuesday when presenting the report on the sector's situation in the first quarter of 2026 and outlining the prospects for the second, already underway.

Looking ahead, businessmen are concerned about weak demand and, above all, the lack of adequate labor, a limitation on activity that persists and is largely determined by the scarcity and high cost of housing.

The Excelcan report forecasts a context of continuity in the normalization of the tourism sector, characterized by positive, albeit moderate, growth, and conditioned by an uncertain geoeconomic environment.

In particular, the contained growth of the economies of the main emitting countries—such as Germany or France—limits the possibility of a more intense expansion of tourist demand.

Likewise, a possible relaxation of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East could favor the recovery of competing destinations such as Turkey, Egypt, or Tunisia, whose competitiveness strategy is mainly based on lower prices.
